We had the good fortune of connecting with Shemicka Buckles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shemicka, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing that outsiders don’t typically realize about Event Planning is the amount of work that is involved behind the scenes. Guests and social media onlookers generally just see the final product; The smiles, fun, pretty pictures etc. but they don’t recognize all of the moving parts that go with it. Sometimes people look at the amount of money that planners charge and they think we are crazy, but the truth is there is a lot of time and work involved to get to the final product. Each part of an event/party/ceremony requires separate vendors and it is our job to ensure that they work together properly for the desired outcomes. We can work with anywhere from 5-50 vendors for each occasion! Imagine the time required to find, research hire/pay and coordinate 50 different businesses to get them on the same page. Not only that but make sure they are at the event early, get them to their places to set up, ensure they all have what they need to make sure the event flows properly etc. Plus, you have to factor in the last minute emergencies that come up. WHEW! Luckily I love the rush of doing multiple things at one time!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Elevated Experience was born in 2017. Over the years it has evolved as I have explored different avenues and found my niche and passion. I am a full service event planner and I specialize in Corporate, Social and Non Profit Events. I have curated several events in the DFW area and worked with several non profit organizations including the Children’s Cancer Fund and City House Children’s Homeless Shelter. Throughout the years I have learned that every event is a successful event no matter the guest count. The people who show up are the people who needed the experience. I am always open to new ideas and new opportunities! I have been blessed to expand my circle over the years and cultivate genuine relationships which have helped me tremendously. I currently service the DFW area but am able and looking forward to providing services in different cities and states.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely LOVE Colorado! Fall and winter are my favorite times to visit as we don’t get much fall weather or snow here in Texas. 🙂 Ziplining is a MUST when visiting Colorado. They views are breathtaking! (The hikes to the tops of the mountains are breathtaking as well) Royal George Rafting and Ziplining tours in Loveland is one of the best tours I have done. Hiking is also a must when visiting Colorado. There are several parks and trails everywhere, it will depend on how much time you have and what kind of hike you are looking to take. Taking in the scenery alone is a must!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a large village that has helped me get to where I am and continues to support me in where I want to go. God is first and foremost. Without Him, I would have lost everything a long time ago. He continues to show grace towards me, guides me to the right places and surrounds me with the right people. My husband has been an amazing source of strength, encouragement and support in every aspect of life. My daughters keep me motivated as they are always wanting to help me in every way, from setting up an event, to coming up with event ideas; They always want to be a part of what I am doing and for that reason I never want to stop! My parents have always encouraged me to go after what I am passionate about and they make sure to come out to my events and support in any way they can. My brother is a permanent constant in my life, a source of motivation and someone who I know will always have my back. I can’t forget my extended family, my friends & friendors (Vendors turned friends) here in the Dallas area, my corporate coworkers and the list goes on and on. Forever grateful.
