We had the good fortune of connecting with Si Moné Killingsworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Si Moné, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2021, I, along with thousands of others, lost one of the most important people in my life due to COVID-19, my maternal grandmother. That year I was forced to grow and understand the world around me in a wider spectrum.
I have always been the one others come to for help or in less words, someone people can depend on. After helping others establish successful businesses throughout the years, I decided it was time for me to pay homage to those I loved most the best way I knew how, starting a business.
This time however, it was different. I decided the focal point of my brand was my family. My grandmother made it her top priority to teach us the importance of family and this was my opportunity to pay my respects and create a lane for business literacy and generational wealth among my people.
Since I was a young girl, I was always fascinated in the fashion industry. I was lucky enough to grow up in the presence of seamstresses while running through my grandmothers shop as she and her sister completed orders for local vendors/companies.
As I grew older, I started to become influenced by my oldest brother and his obsession for hip hop. I can recall the days where he would practice break dancing and spinning (djing) in our house and how passionate he was.
Essentially, his passion sparked my interest and as most little sisters do,
I took a full dive into the hip hop world. “5 elements,” he explained, “B-boying, emcee, Djing, tagging or graffiti and fashion. Those are the staples of what founded hip hop.”
Those words were a constant reminder of a small spark AND that is how the thought process behind Go Gang Ltd was established. Most people look at starting a business for financial gain, I, decided to use my platform as inspiration to those afraid to take a leap and invest in the most important thing in the world to me, my family.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Go Gang Ltd, commemorating the elements of hip hop by providing exclusive high-end fashion, on the go! Hip Hop fashion that brings the comfortability and style while roving through the streets.
I have been successful with this brand because of the opportunities I recent, participated in, like the most recently the Jae Jordan second annual Spring/Summer Fashion show, an all woman owned and operated at the Denver Design Incubator.
The Life of Fashion, an urban fashion show that changed the culture for people of color in the Denver community. Where I was able to collaborate with local promoters and received conclusive feedback as well as build my clientele.
I also reached out and collaborated with local businesses such as, The Glass House by Stacey M, a high-end designer eyewear store, where I was able to showcase my brand as well as highlight the accessories that accentuated my ensembles.
The proudest collaboration I continue to focus on is the support and assistance from various Hip-Hop Dj’s, artist or rappers, such as Poetik Genius also known as PG, who continues to promote my brand through the music and entertainment industry.
Go Gang Ltd is my expression for my love of the elements of hip hop and our culture. Djing, Mcing, breakdancing, Graffiti or tagging and fashion all encompass where the culture of hip hop started and became the forefront of the music and entertainment industry.
I am able to share my trendsetting fashion ideas with people who share the same love of hip hop with an emphasis on fashion.
Today, I am still learning the ins and outs of the industry. I have an amazing team behind me that supports my creative niche and helps build my brand more every day. I know that my wits, charm and charismatic personality opens opportunities and doors in every room I enter. With the unconditional support from complete strangers, I will one day be the most successful woman of color in the industry.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
