We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For years I’ve been told by friends and family, “you should start your own business doing this!” Or, “you should design for a living!” I would politely dismiss those comments with thoughts along the lines of, “that will never work out! Or at least, not for me.” It wasn’t until my father passed that I decided to start my own business. SunnyPear began with nature and travel-themed designs, something I enjoyed doing with my father. With these designs, I develop unique apparel that connects with customers’ experiences.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
SunnyPear started on Etsy in September 2021 in hopes to develop unique apparel that connects with customers’ travel and outdoor experiences. I started to create apparel and stickers that related to my own adventures at first, coming out with a Colorado state shirt. As my business grew so did the request in states, which lead me to release a design for all 50 states. This allowed customers to not only buy their home state but collect shirts in which they visit. Since releasing this line I have had stories of people buying them to surprise their families for a trip or for moving reveals. Whatever the story is I am thankful to be able to be a part of it and help make that moment special.
Review from customer:
“The onesie was of great quality, and the customization of the NC state image was perfect. The seller included a nice thank you note for ordering from a small business. The item was packaged very nicely. A truly delightful gift from NC for a colleague in Switzerland who is expecting her 1st child!” – Amy S
One of the biggest struggles I have faced running a small business is being a content creator. Coming up with fresh content ideas is the most challenging and perhaps the most frustrating for me but I’ve learned that creativity comes in waves. I have also learned not to compare myself to big brands, that I am where I need to be right now and that everything will fall into place as I grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As someone who is local to Colorado Springs, I would start with the Garden of Gods. With free admission to this National Natural Landmark, they can experience sandstone rock formations up to 300 feet high. From there I’ll take them to visit new heights and explore Pikes Peak. We can reach the summit via car or take the cog train up. The views don’t end there, after a long day of exploring I would take them to the View House for dinner.
On day two, we will start our morning at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo feeding the animals. Followed by a trip to Seven Falls, a 224-step staircase will take you to the top of the 181-foot waterfall. Later we will visit The Royal Gorge Bridge which is More than 1,000 feet above the rushing Arkansas River. This is America’s highest suspension bridge.
Day three Visit Breckenridge. Start the morning at Breckfast with a French Toast Sandwich. Visit the Troll and enjoy a picnic. Explore the town for a day of Shopping. If they visit in the summer I would plan White Water Rafting, if visiting in the winter, I would plan a ski trip.
Day four Explore Denver. Start the day off with a light show and meditation at the international church of cannabis. After some relaxation, we will explore the art at meow wolf. Later visit the botanical gardens to see the beauty of nature.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank the Shaffer’s for supporting my dream from the start and always being there to cheer me on when things get tough.
