We had the good fortune of connecting with Simona Cora Salardi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simona Cora, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I opened Cora Graphics ten years ago. I had taken several graphic design courses and worked as a graphic designer and web designer as a graphic studio but editorial graphics has always been my highest aspiration.
I love books, I’m a book addicted, so I decided to contact some authors and made some promotional images for them. From that moment I chose to quit my job and open Cora Graphics.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If I’m here today, it is because of the the constant and growing consensus reached in these years allowed me to strengthen and increase the partnership with a lot of publishing houses and independent authors. But it hasn’t been easy. I have a beautiful job, I work from the comfort of my home, and I can afford to walk my dog mid-morning when other people are at work. But behind that is a lot of commitment and hard work. From ten years I have been waking up every morning at 6am and working often until late at night, and I work every weekend. I have learned that there is no finish line, I still have so much to learn both artistically and as an entrepreneur.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is easy…. I live in Italy, we have the sea, the mountains and the countryside. And we have lots of medieval villages, but most of all we have good food and good wine :). I would make a food-itinerary. I would start with romantic Venicea gondola ride and an aperitivo at the Bàcari, the typical traditional Venetian osteria where you can find a wide selection of wines and great snacks. Then I would pass through Bologna, a visit to the monuments and dinner at one of the city’s many historic restaurants. I would go down to Tuscany to admire Florence and the beautiful countryside with its beautiful villages and then stop in Rome.
Actually, the south of Italy is even more beautiful than the north, but a week is too little time so yes, the final stop is Rome.
What do you say, book your trip?
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several people I have to thank, Cora Graphics was an important choice, I left a secure job to launch myself into the competitive world of covers. I live in Italy but I knew that I would also have to work night and day in order to get a salary. I asked my family to support me in the initial moment when the income is little and the expenses are many. So I have to thanks my family, my friends who have always believed in me and especially my clients who believed in my work and continue to do so.
