We had the good fortune of connecting with Smoji and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Smoji, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by many things. The most impactful inspiration would be the people around me and the people I work with. There’s a lot of talented hardworking individuals that have a consistent drive towards their goals and that keeps me on my feet too. Everyone around me is constantly in the game and active, no one is sitting on the sidelines. There is times that one of the artist will achieve something great and in some way, it feels like we all did something collectively.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work currently consist of audio engineering and producing music for other artist. My quality is what really sets me apart from others. I have the mindset that I’m forever a student and that keeps me always evolving and growing. I don’t come from a music orientated family so I really had to sit down and study everything about music. I would say it was definitely a process learning how to make music and learning how its recorded/produced. Additionally, learning different music production softwares. I did a lot of complimentary work at first, but I feel that helped me get to where I’m at today. It took a while to see the value I had and be able to put a price to this, but once I did it’s like a light switch and slowly everyone around you sees the value you bring to the table.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say that it all depends on the mood. I enjoy hiking, so that would be always be something I would offer anyone. There is so much to explore in the mountains of Colorado including the small mountain towns that have some great drinks and expensive food. I would definitely offer to spend the night at a nearby airbnb or hotel and the next day enjoy a day at a hot springs.
I also enjoy always taking friends to play paintball or ATV riding. Paint balling is definitely my go-to and I always try to find any excuse to go.
Food wise, i’m taking anyone and everyone with me to eat some tacos. There is a lot of hidden Taco Truck gems off of Peoria and 56th, but if tacos aren’t the mood then, My Neighbor Felix restaurant is a great breakfast and lunch place. For dinner, it would have to be Lazy Dog, they have many great burgers there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Many things can’t be accomplished without the support of others, whether it be one person or a group of people. Any sort of love and encouragement is always appreciated, but it is also so important to show the same energy back. I, first, want to thank God for the guidance for when I feel lost. I want to give a special shoutout to my family who has really seen the sweat and tears of my career so far. I want to shoutout my team, OVN, we are a small collective all pursuing the same dream, I really wouldn’t be here without their support. I also want to shoutout everyone who has ever showed any sort of love toward my work.
