We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Erazo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Over the last 6.5 years of running this salon a work life balance has been one of my greatest struggles. There are seasons when the salon requires more of me, and there are seasons where things are more free flowing and don’t require me to be here as much and I can enjoy more time outside of work. I think there will always be this ying yang, ebb and flow state of work and life when it comes to being a business owner.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We opened our doors on August 3, 2019—and from day one, Peachy Keen has been more than just a salon. It’s a high-vibrational space where beauty, self-care, and good energy collide. Every detail in our bungalow is intentional, designed to make you feel seen, heard, and genuinely celebrated.
We believe in personalized, one-on-one experiences. No double booking, no rushing, no chaos—just you and your stylist, in a space that feels like a warm embrace. This is a safe, inclusive, judgment-free salon where your vibe is honored and your beauty is amplified.
The journey here wasn’t easy. I opened this salon at 20 years old with nothing but hope and a dream. Those first few years were full of trial and error—making mistakes, learning from them, and choosing to keep going anyway. We’ve made it six years because we’re always growing, changing, and evolving. If something isn’t working, we adjust. We try new things, we refine our systems, we update products, and sometimes we even let go of team members who simply aren’t aligned. Not everyone is meant to stay, and that’s okay. My management team and I are committed to making this salon the best place to work and the best place to be serviced.
Very early on, I decided Peachy Keen would break every stereotypical toxic salon norm. I wanted this to be a safe haven—not only for our guests, but for the stylists who choose to work here. Coming to work should feel good, not draining. That’s something I’m fiercely proud of. As tough as it can be, we address things head-on and find real solutions. Nothing gets swept under the rug. Communication between management and our stylists is always clear, open, and consistent.
As an owner, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that not everyone is for you—and that’s okay. We all come with different morals, values, personalities, support systems, and ways of moving through life. Naturally, that doesn’t always align with how I run my business. When someone isn’t meant to be part of this journey, it just means their path is different—not wrong, just different.
I want the world to be inspired by my story: take the risk. Make the mistakes—lots of them. But learn, grow, and keep going. Your dreams are possible, but you have to put in the hard work to bring them to life
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’ve often heard, “it takes a village to raise a child”, but in my case, It has taken a village to build this business into the success that it is today.
As a woman owned small business, we so often see things online saying “self-made”, “boss babe” or “girl boss”. It can be so easy to fall into the hustle culture thinking we do this all by ourselves and forget about the support systems around us.
Behind this woman owned small business, is an entire village dedicated to helping me make every dream & crazy idea into a reality. I am beyond thankful for my village. And I’m thankful for the journey it took to get us here.
