Meet Stephanie Fox | Clinical Psychologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Being a parent is complicated! Challenging, fun, absurd, rewarding, scary, emotional, heartwarming. All the things. One of the most basic and important things about being a parent is accepting that premise and normalizing that we’re all going through this unique, amazing, and difficult journey with the same insecurities. I’ve found that becoming a parent has really benefited my clinical work, and my experience in my field has helped me as a parent. I truly empathize with the parents who come to me concerned about their children and seeking help and answers. This is why a large part of my work is validating wherever possible because we don’t get enough of that positive feedback and empathy as parents. We’re all doing a great job!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I offer learning and psychological evaluations, using special tests to get data about what is happening in the brain. Whether it’s a learning style, how information is processed, the feelings present, the way we cope, or our individual strengths and weaknesses, testing can find answers that aren’t always obvious. I truly love testing. It feels like a superpower. Especially with young people, it can be hard for them to make sense of and verbalize what they’re experiencing, and testing becomes a vehicle to translate the internal world so others can understand. Each case feels like a privilege to me. I am honored that parents trust me to help their children, or that adults are willing to be vulnerable and share their beautiful and complex stories with me. I am a member of this neurodivergent community myself, and I feel a responsibility to help inform and support others who encounter similar challenges. Over the years, I have tweaked my style to make reports feel more accessible, honed in on my favorite testing instruments, and sought substantial consultation and training. There is constant learning and growth that is needed as an evaluator, and I take my responsibility very seriously. Of course, I also like to make testing fun and approachable, as it can seem scary. No one hears “testing” and expects a good time. My goal is for everyone to leave the experience feeling positive and affirmed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Red Rocks is a must. It’s just so unique, and there are not many places like it. I’m from the East coast, so anything rock formations and mountains is a special treat. I’m also a sports fan, so incorporating a Rockies or Avs game is a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom for sure! She was a pioneer in her field, building notoriety and trust as a nursing education consultant on the national stage. She balanced many roles while also running her business, traveling regularly, and being a parent. It was normalized for me that you could make your own path and be in charge of your destiny pursuing what you love. You just find a way to make it work. There never appeared to be limitations just because she was a woman, and that strength and confidence is something I carry as well.
