We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Lear and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Where’s the blues? When I first moved out to Colorado in 2019 from my hometown of Cincinnati, I was getting very deep into the blues. I was just introduced to Jimi, SRV, BB, Johnny Winter, and quite a few others I now deem my all time greats. As a new young guitar player I was just eager to get out and find some of the cats on the scene that were playing the kind of blues rock music I love to listen to. After sometime and going to a few shows, I ended up falling in love with the Denver music scene and decided to start a project of my own.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that sets us apart from others, I believe, is our energy on stage. With my core group of members, Tyler Treadway, Rj Cox and Alex Preston on stage with me it feels like nothing can go wrong. We always seem to lock in and find the groove at the right times and you can’t really ask for more than that as musicians. Plus the guys are a good hang.
I think that’s something we’re also most proud of, we’ve come a long way since 2022 and being able to fuse tougher multi-genre musicians is always a fun challenge, but it makes for some good music!
It’s not easy finding a core sound in a band, I’ve had the pleasure meeting lots of great musicians who have stood up on stage with me to fill in for the night or just some time and without those people, the show would have not been the same! So I’m very grateful that the Denver music scene has lots of nice musicians willing to hop on at a moments notice and make the show happen.
If there is anything you can take away from this story it’s SUPPORT LOCAL LIVE MUSIC! We all work so graciously hard to put something together for the people so if you have the time, the ears and the heart to come support local musicians please do!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question is pretty easy as Denver is full of awesome places. Anytime one of my friends comes to town I always recommend the LoHi area. Lots of great places down there between 38th and Boulder St. Dimestore Delibar is a noteable favorite of mine. Forest Room 5 Is a great bar to visit afterwards because of its outdoor fire pit area with a very summer campy feel. Always a fun place to go!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not have and could not continue doing this without the love and support of my friends, family and my band. There’s too many people to thank for where I’m at today because so many hands have played into it.
