We had the good fortune of connecting with Stuart Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stuart, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
By the end of my career I want to be known as a good musician. There’s a lot of reasons why people get into music, but i would say for myself it was to get to play guitar as much as possible. I don’t really care about fortune. I care about playing guitar and would like the end goal as a musician to be being known for being good at playing guitar. Even if no one ever knew about Stereo Ontario I would keep playing guitar because I like doing it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This journey of getting Stereo Ontario bigger and bigger has been very very slow. The band started in 2018 as Just 1 person recording everything in their bedroom. In late 2018 Ethan Fornari joined the band on drums and we put out 2 albums together and started playing live sets here and there in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs while slowly booking shows for 2020. once our jam packed spring and summer of 2020 started the whole world shut down so we went back into recording and writing and released a single, and Acoustic Ep and a third album between fall of 2020 and spring of 2021. Once 2021 restarted the band gained a permanent bass player who was Noel Sterling. This lineup started playing every week out at open mics, bars, and clubs. We even opened for national acts such as Smile Empty Soul, Co Op who is Alice Coopers son’s Band, and Hearts & Hand Grenades. This line up lost its bass player and drummer because of work and scheduling issues and were replaced be Jon and Gabriel. This new lineup has been crowds favorite so far and is really starting to blow up. We just opened for Marcy Playground and are currently booking a tour for Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. I think at times its been difficult handling the ever changing world with a band post covid, but I think it in the long run has made everyone stronger musicians who can really light a place up every night.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in Colorado Springs for a week we would obviously for a few days go camp and see some of Colorado’s natural beauty. We would probably go camp out side of Leadville and take a stroll up either La Plata Peak, Mt. Elbert, Mt. Massive, or Mt. Holy, Cross. We would then spend a couple days in my home of Colorado Springs and hit some of the cool bars, restaraunts, and clubs like Armadillo Ranch, thunder and Buttons, Vultures, Tonys, Happytap, El Super Taco, and the black Sheep depending on the show.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people who have brought success to Stereo Ontario but my band mates and my mom and dad. With out support from all of them I do not think I would be any where near where I am today.
