We had the good fortune of connecting with Susie Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susie, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The biggest thing outsiders are unaware of in the blogging industry is just how much time it takes to make a successful blog. It’s more than being able to write an article, although that is the part I love most! I have to worry about taking good photos, finding interesting and current topics my audience enjoys, and I need to continually create new content to keep readers interested. There are a million bloggers out there and the market is quite saturated, so staying fresh with new content can be challenging but is also part of the fun!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a blogger, I felt like there was a gap in the industry to be filled. Many of the bloggers I follow tend to have heavily filtered photos, perfect vacation stories, and parties that rival those of celebrities with professional party planners. They make gourmet dinners for their family wearing designer clothes with perfect makeup. The reality is, as a 40-year-old housewife in suburban Castle Rock, that’s just not what life looks like for me or most women I know. For example, travel can be a bear sometimes – especially with young kids in tow. Flights get cancelled, luggage gets lost, kids lose their minds. When it comes to party planning, a successful event takes a lot of work, and sometimes even more obscenities. (Hence my blog’s name.) I wanted to be transparent with other women on how I created my holiday display, or threw a huge party, or created themes for school events, and give tips on how to easily replicate it themselves. Online is so curated! The photos you see on Instagram aren’t the first quick snap that person took. So it seemed like the time to create a lifestyle blog that is authentic, unfiltered, and hopefully entertaining as well. Us moms need to stick together, and if I can make you crack up while also helping you plan an epic family vacation, then why not go for it?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many fun things to do around town! First, I’d recommend a fancy cocktail at Williams and Graham followed by dinner in The Highlands. (I like Linger or The Ale House best.) It would be fun to catch a Rockies game or Broncos game depending on the time of year. I’d recommend spending the night at The Rally, making sure to enjoy a drink or appetizer in their outdoor courtyard. I’d also recommend a trip up to Boulder to catch a Buffs game. If a football game isn’t their style, they could grab a slice of pizza on “the hill” and then walk the shops on Pearl Street, stopping to take in the street performers and all of the beautiful Boulder weirdness. And of course, attending a concert at Red Rocks is a must! For the folks who like to hike, I’d tell them to go to the Garden of the Gods or Hanging Lake. Or they could head west to my personal favorite ski town – Breckenridge. Even if they don’t ski or snowboard, they’d still love hanging out in Breck! Colorado truly has something for everyone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my husband and my kids deserve a big shout out! My kids are what inspired me to start my blog. It began with me being their “classroom mom” and I’d share ideas with other parents for classroom parties, teacher appreciation gifts, and travel tips. Then, it was really my husband, Vince, who supported my efforts in writing a blog when he saw that other moms kept coming to me for advice. He is continually patient knowing that it takes years in most cases to make money off of blogging and many hours poured into it before seeing a penny. My parents deserve a huge shout out too of course! Them and my late brother, Mikey, were always supportive of all of my endeavors and taught me to not sweat the small stuff. I also owe recognition to my Grandma Larren who has always been my cheerleader and who I idolized as a kid! And lastly, I owe one to my dearest friends (Jenna, Jenny, and Sydney,) and my cousin, Mary who continually keep me laughing and grounded! I wouldn’t be half the woman I am today without my supportive, loving, hilarious family.
