We had the good fortune of connecting with Suzanna Healy (Rudig) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Suzanna, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I don’t think I can name just one important factor behind my success – it started with a tiny dream of mine – to support local, be sustainable & also make beautiful floral arrangements for anyone and everyone.

I truly believe that flowers are good for the soul and that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy them and afford them.

I have built an incredible (WOMAN OWNED!) community at my Kiosk and they are everything – we support one another through ups and downs, and it makes such a difference, I truly would not be here without: Talitha Koum Sourdough, Blnded Bliss, Wildora, Hooked on Alex, Bakes and Bends, Kindred Cards by Amy, The Sweet Stop (best Ice Cream in all of NoCo), My Garden of Gems, Wozani Farm (where I source all of my flowers March through October) and last but certainly not least my Mom, my husband Tre, and my best friend Monet (owner of Mo&Co Flowers in Utah) – it truly takes a village and it always will.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been creative and artistic – I set most of that aside to pursue my Master’s degree and eventually work in politics…one day I woke up and it was like a switch had been flipped. I missed creating and I missed making people happy with my art.

I had previously painted and drawn but I have had a life long love of flowers from my grandmother, Gammy – so I decided to just go for it. Flowers are the most amazing way to express your feelings – it is so gratifying to learn about a person and then make them an arrangement based on what I learn about them. No piece is ever the same and I love integrating parts of someone’s life or personality into an arrangement.

Was this easy? Ha! No! This has been the hardest thing I have ever done – While I could speak of the very hard challenges I had to overcome, I would rather not- because I love where I am, I love that my community knows about Flour + Flower and knows that we are locally sourced and supportive of local small businesses. The “Flour” part is fulfilled by awesome local bakers – there is just so much talent in our Tri-town area, I feel like I landed in the golden land and I am so lucky!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok well this is a fun one!

Our first stop is going to be MECO in downtown Frederick – coffee and fresh made croissants cannot be beat. After that, we are hitting up Urban Radiance Med Spa for some wellness IVs (seriously they’re amazing!) – after that we must visit our local hidden gem- Carbon Valley Recreation Center- for a workout and then hot tub time. For lunch we have lots of options – we’ll start with Gabe’s Diner for day 1, Day 2 will be Casa Cortez, Day 3 must grab BBQ at Georgia Boy’s!

We are getting our sweet tooth fix at Lori Lee’s Chocolate’s and Gifts and then The Sweet Stop for homemade Ice Cream (the best you’ll ever have!)

Dinners will be a mix of home cooked goodness, after we visit The Mercantile in Mead for the best meats in all the lands and comfort food from The Wing Shack. Nights out will consists of pool at Rock Solid and Jerry D’s 2.0. Can we have two week instead???

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom deserves the biggest shoutout – she has supported every dream I have had – and this one was a big one. She even flies out from Florida to help me on big holidays, like Valentine’s and Mother’s Day. My friends and family, husband included, are a huge factor overall – aside from the other small businesses I mentioned earlier. You can’t do something like this alone. My village is my everything. They keep me going on hard days and celebrate with me on the great days! I’m so lucky to have the support system I have.
