We had the good fortune of connecting with Talisa Caldwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Talisa, what principle do you value most?
I have always cared a lot about my health and my body. I have always had very sensitive skin, and sensitivity to the foods that I put in my body. Too often, I would buy products and not pay attention to the label until later when I started getting irritation on my skin, or I would start to get headaches from artificially scented candles. A lot of people don’t know the harmful effects of these chemicals that are added into our everyday products! Store bought candles for instance, have chemicals in them that are also found in diesel fuels, household cleaners and glues that cause environmental and bodily pollution! And people are burning these in their houses everyday! It is of upmost importance to me that people can trust that are buying products that are not full of artificial chemicals and ingredients that can be harmful to the environment and to the body. I know that we are in an age where people are starting to pay attention to what goes on and in their bodies a lot more. I wanted to create trust between me and my customers so that they know EXACTLY what I’m putting (and not putting) in the products. I also wanted to have the freedom to do be creative, to create healing products for people, and above all else, to do what I love to do! I plan on hiring on some employees this summer, so I hope to create financial freedom for them as well!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I create Natural Skin Care, Beeswax Candles, Soaps, and HerbalTeas because I believe that it is very important to know exactly what you put in and on your body. I only use high quality, natural ingredients from trusted resources to insure that you are getting the best product that you can’t find anywhere else! I also believe in reducing waste and protecting the planet, so all products are packaged in reusable, sustainable packaging.I got to where I am today because I lost my main source of income due to COVID, so in July of 2020I decided to put my full energy into my business, Freedom Creators Co. It definitely hasn’t been easy because I never went to school for business, and I had always thought of myself more as an artist than a business owner. I came to realize that I could be both, and that all I had to do was start! I started from ground zero, and since then I have been slowly learning more and more as I go. I don’t see other successful business owners as competition, but rather as mentors and inspiration. I believe that the world has enough abundance for all of us to reap, and once I shifted my mindset from lack to abundance, things in my business started really moving and picking up! In less than a year I have put my products in multiple stores throughout Colorado Springs, Hawaii and I will be expanding to Denver soon. I have been able to live off of my business only and don’t have to work any side jobs to sustain me. I also will be hiring my first employees next month (April) and releasing a whole new line of natural skin care products. I have learned to just never give up and to keep pursuing your passions, no matter what obstacles you face. You WILL fail, but once you fail, learn from it, and keep moving forward. I also believe it is important to put your love into what you do. If you are full of fear and stress all the time, that stunts your growth. Trust in yourself and trust that God truly wants what is best for you, and watch it grow! I hope to make people feel good, and trust that all they buy from Freedom Creators Co is made with loving intentions. I’d like the world to know that they have the power to create their freedom!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love all of the beautiful nature spots throughout Colorado Springs. I think it is very important to spend time in nature in order to recharge, reset and rest. Some of my favorite spots to hang out are Red Rocks open space, Ute Valley park, and Palmer Park. I have a 14 month old son, so all these places are easily accessible to us and are not too hard of hikes. Afterwards, I would take them shopping downtown and stop by one of my favorite shops, Eclectic Co! It is a shop made up of over 80 different local vendors and artists who specialize in vintage, fair-trade and sustainability. Also, the majority of their vendors are woman-owned businesses! I love to support all that they are doing, and the stuff in there is just too cute! We would end the day eating at one of my favorite Ramen spots in town, Rooster Ramen!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a Shoutout to the encouragement that I get from my life long family and friends, and specifically to my community at Story Church Colorado! With their consistent prayers and encouragement, I have found the strength to overcome many obstacles and battles and continue pursuing my business, all while keeping God first. They accepted me and gave me the love that I deserve. As a single mother, I need a lot of support in order to care for my son and manage my business, and they have truly become a family to me and my son. It is so necessary to have a community that believes in you and inspires you, and I have learned that you should never have to face hardships alone. Through my relationship with God and my beautiful community, I can see that anything is possible! Thank you!
