We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Herl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
More and more people are feeling called to change old paradigms in society. They can no longer settle for the status quo of doing things the way they’ve always been done. When they begin to speak up and stand out, they need more than just their passion for change to create the difference they long to see. I show these Changemakers how to do their inner work so they can make the difference they were destined for, without burning out in the process. I help them learn how to rise above the “Us vs them” mentality that isn’t effective, because that only creates more divisiveness. My clients learn how to tap into their internal and Divine wisdom so they can create the innovative and win-win solutions that society needs right now.
What should our readers know about your business?
The word “zeitgeist” describes what I’m most excited about in my business today. Zeitgeist is the cultural climate of an era, and what describes our current era is a growing sense of dissatisfaction with the societal structures and systems that are in place. The programs at Wild Divine Coaching and Retreats are designed to educate and support the global movement of Changemakers that are rising up to create what Patricia Cota Robles calls “heart-based social systems.”
It took me awhile to get to where I am today. It wasn’t easy, because initially I couldn’t be consistent in showing up the way I wanted to professionally. There were times when I showed up at my best and created powerful, effective change. Other times, my behavior was driven by past trauma and I would find myself feeling regret or embarrassment related to things I had said or done.
It’s definitely a work in progress, but the way I am overcoming this is to use my training in art therapy to continue my own personal growth work. I consistently draw upon my training in Internal Family Systems so that I can understand what drives my behavior when I experience less than ideal circumstances in my business and life. And I use my nature-connected coaching skills to deepen my ability to draw upon Divine guidance through nature whenever I need answers.
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that Nature is my partner in both my business and in my personal life. I have found that accessing Divine guidance by spending time outdoors provides the direction I need so that I can align deeply with the authentic and unique truth of who I am meant to serve through my work, rather than following popular business trends.
The outside the box programs at Wild Divine Retreat Center are designed to support people who are committed to helping humanity reinvent itself. We teach others how to use the tools that we’ve found to be so helpful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends and family come to visit, there are several places I love taking them. Because I enjoy treating folks like royalty, we often visit Glen Eyrie castle for their scrumptious multi-course High Tea. Another favorite stop off point is Treehouse Café, because visitors can get a taste of not only delicious coffee and snacks, but also incredible visual images produced by local artists. No trip to the Colorado Springs area would be complete without connecting to the amazing scenery, so in summer, it’s always a treat to hike the trail to Seven Bridges. And to feed the Soul, I love inviting visitors to do some forest bathing beside Fountain creek, since it runs the entire length of our retreat center in Cascade.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are two people I want to dedicate this Shoutout to.
The first is Dick Schwartz, the founder of Internal Family Systems, because his teachings on how to become led by Self, or what I call the spark of the Divine, have been instrumental in helping me and countless others live a life that is in alignment with what we value, rather than being driven by past trauma.
The second person is Frank Rogers, who pioneered a model called Compassionate Activism, which focuses on nurturing compassion for oneself and others, and on creating common good in the midst of conflict.
