We had the good fortune of connecting with Taurean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taurean, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue an artistic career because I used to have anger issues in middle school due to childhood trauma and things we were going through currently. By the time I got to high school I was playing basketball so I had somewhere to channel emotions. By my Junior year (my grades were gonna prevent me from going further due to not being present enough and applying myself) so I stopped playing once I realized I had a talent for music. Recorded my first song in 2005 and the rest is history. After hearing my voice and listening to people tell me how dope I sounded made me wanna keep going, Taurean (the rap artist) came alive that day! I knew that I finally found my passion.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What set’s me apart from others is my story we all have one and the way we tell it to the world, I’m the voice of the everyday man. I strive to Shine light on the struggles not only I face but we all face in a relatable fashion through my songs and hope to spark belief in a better day for everyone. So far i’ve had experiences that i’m very proud of. One of my proudest moments was when i performed at Denver’s Juneteenth festival in 2019, where he rocked a crowd of fans and peers in celebration of Black culture and Denver’s Black community. I also had an opportunity to headline my own show in Downtown LA!! Being a kid from Denver, CO that was one of the best learning experiences i’ve had in my career. To get to where I am now was never a easy road and still isn’t easy, a lot of trial and error with basically everything, from my artistry to business partners to just having nights wondering if I should still be going.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend is from here lol but if i’m just taking someone for a good time in the city that’s not from here lol. Our first stop is the Dispensary lol gotta get right and i feel like we are the Marijuana capital in America (Shrugs) Next somewhere outdoors during the day, CO we have some of the dopest spots to go on hikes etc just mentally clear your mind and see some dope views depending on the time of year it is also. A rockies or nuggets game is always a must! if my friend is an artist we will visit Bright future media where i record to make some music of course, One of my fav food spots is TK’s Surf & Turf or Welton St Cafe so that’s where we would go for food.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to Shoutout my team “Dream Is Grind productions” Me being the premiere artist we have accomplished so much in these two going on three years and the opportunities for our growth just continues to grow daily. Only directions are Up and Forward always. Life because without it we are nothing, Something new happens daily so that creates a new story to tell. My children for being my motivation and purpose daily to wake up and keep going.
