Meet Tavaris Williams | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tavaris Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tavaris, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson I have been taught by this business, is that you cannot please everyone. People always want more for less. And Business Owners have to learn how to say no.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At 27 years old, I stand as an Army Veteran turned passionate photographer, driven by a profound desire to share my unique perspective with the world. Photography, for me, transcends mere imagery; it’s a medium through which I can articulate my innermost thoughts and emotions, capturing moments that resonate deeply with both myself and those who view my work.
What sets my art apart is not just the technical skill or artistic flair, but the depth of authenticity and sincerity infused into every frame. As a veteran, I bring a distinctive perspective, a blend of discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. But beyond that, I’ve found my niche in boudoir photography, where I strive to empower individuals, capturing their beauty, strength, and vulnerability in a way that celebrates their uniqueness.
My journey to this point has been anything but easy. Transitioning from military life to civilian pursuits presented its challenges, but through unwavering determination and a focus on nurturing my mental well-being, I’ve overcome every obstacle in my path. I’ve learned that true strength lies not just in physical prowess, but in acknowledging and tending to one’s emotional and psychological needs.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve gleaned along this journey is that support often comes from unexpected sources. While friends may offer encouragement, it’s often strangers who wholeheartedly embrace and champion your endeavors. This realization has fueled my drive to forge connections with new people, to collaborate, and to continuously expand my horizons as both an artist and an individual.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that behind every photograph lies a story—a narrative woven from moments of vulnerability, resilience, and unwavering determination. My art is not just about capturing images; it’s about fostering connection, empowerment, and self-expression. And as I continue to evolve and grow, I remain committed to sharing my passion with the world, one frame at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend came to town, I’d want to show them a fantastic mix of local favorites and unique experiences. We’d start our week-long adventure by visiting a dispensary to pick up some creative inspiration. Then, we’d dive into the culinary scene, starting with a tour of the Edgewater Public Market where we’d sample bites from four different vendors. Of course, we couldn’t miss out on grabbing a legendary pizza at Beau Jo’s, followed by satisfying my burger craving at Bad Daddy’s Burgers.
For breakfast, we’d indulge in some innovative twists on classic morning fare at Snooze. And when it’s time for lunch, a visit to Santos Cafe in Montclair would be a must for its cozy ambiance and delicious dishes.
In between meals, we’d explore the vibrant local arts scene, perhaps checking out some galleries or attending a live performance. We’d also make time for outdoor adventures, whether it’s hiking in the nearby mountains or strolling through scenic parks.
Overall, I’d want my friend to experience the dynamic energy and diverse flavors that make our area so special, creating memories that we’ll cherish long after their visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Beautiful wife Monica who has always supported me in everything that I do.
