Meet Taylor Hughes | Mobile Bar Owner & Bartender

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Hughes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This vision really started when I was a junior in college almost ten years ago. I had been working as a waitress at a bunch of different places and found joy in interacting with new people and the regulars that would come in.
When I eventually began my bartending journey in 2019, i had no idea just how impactful it would be for me. I was pretty close to the bar owner that changed it all for me (Chupacabra Beer & Wine in Salado, Texas). Rachel was an incredible woman who built up her business herself and had her hand in every change and update to the everyday at the bar. She taught me a lot about not taking mess from anyone and finding my own bearing in a world that was rapidly changing during COVID. When i was bartending there I had heard that other bartenders in the area had been contracted for private events I told myself “I want a piece of that”. But it was more than just being someone hired to work for a few hours and then leave. I wanted to be a part of the planning process for menus and finding new fun ways to make someone’s event magical. I eventually started researching what businesses in the area provided those kind of services and realized there weren’t many in the area we were in so I started what was once a daydream into an actual plan.

What should our readers know about your business?
At Tipsy Nomad, we are most proud being a small business locally and woman owned in a world against both. Besides offering customizable packages for each event, we pride ourselves in our ability to work personally with each client no matter what. There is no event too small or too big for what we can do to create the most memorable experience. We are incredibly blessed to be able to offer rental services instead of just bartending services. Besides the incredible amount of recipes and techniques we have learned making menus and drinks for occasions, we have also learned that just providing materials can be a huge help to a lot of events. It wasn’t easy for us to decide to include rental services. We wanted to be in the party as much as we wanted to serve them. I have learned a lot of ways to better serve than just providing the drinks. Sometimes, all someone needs are the materials and the freedom to customize exactly what their vision requires and it was hard to let go of the control that being apart of those plans entailed. I have built tables, wedding arches, champagne walls, you name it. Tipsy Nomad has evolved from just wanting to serve our individual dreams and has become helping other peoples’ dreams become fully realized with or without someone there from Tipsy Nomad. We want everyone to know that no matter the circumstance, we are here to make their dream a reality and create something everyone will remember for the rest of their lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay, imagine for a moment we have already made the trip to our first destination, The Great Sand Dunes. We wake up at 7 am, make a campfire breakfast in our favorite sweaters and have a coffee while we watch the sun rise from our campsite. After breakfast, we make the drive to the park and find a prime spot and gear ourselves up to make it to the tallest dune in time to have a light lunch we made ourselves the night before. When we get to the top we take a moment to take a breath and realize that nature is all we need in order to remember how incredible life is and to have friends beside us is life’s cherry on top. THEN we boogie board down the side of the dune and laugh until our stomachs hurt. At the end of the afternoon, we lay out a blanket or two to sit beside the small stream coming from the mountains and talk about everything going on in our lives. For the next few days, we visit Cheyenne Mountain State park to camp and hike to the best spots to hike and picnic to enjoy the fresh air with homemade road trip recipes that never skimp on bacon or bread. Towards the end of the week to wind down, we would make our way back to the city to hit the best local breweries to try beers we’ve never had and try to compare our VERY different flavor preferences and judge each other for our choices. I think that enjoying the nature that we have the privilege to be around is the epitome of being human as well as making sure that it is taken care of.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people in my life who have made a huge difference in me making my dream a reality. My biggest cheerleaders are my friends and family but above all else, my partner in crime, my husband Chad has been an incredible supporter. At every low and every high he has been there to help me through it. Between teaching me metal fabrication for the horse trailer bar and helping me create the plans for the satellite bars, he has been the mastermind behind the creation of the materials needed to make our services shine. Chad is one of the most optimistic and supportive people I have ever met – even when it is just me crying over a glass of wine when I’m nervous about how we will do. He has been an incredible support throughout our time together since our first date when I told him about my dream to this year when I finally formed the LLC.
Other credit goes to my gal pals Carlee at Cutthroat Dice and Mads at Moth To A Flame tattoo, who I met when I first moved to Colorado in 2020. We all worked a the same spot in downtown Springs when we were all plotting our own success. Since then they have both become (and always were TBH) the successful women they are. I aspire to be as incredible as they are.
