We had the good fortune of connecting with Teresa Ferreira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teresa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to have the freedom to pick my clients, teams who I’m working with and ultimately only work with small business and purpose-led brands who want to create a positive impact in the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a brand consultant and designer, with over 14 years of experience in the creative industry in London.
My career was somewhat squiggly, as I only started image-making in my last year of an Archaeology degree, in my hometown, in Lisbon. After that, I was sure that I wanted to pursue the arts and I found a Master of Arts in Archaeological Illustration, where I specialised in museum graphics. This was the way I got into graphic design, as I learned the Adobe software and the importance of typography.
Since then, I’ve freelanced, worked in-house and agency and I’m currently a Head of Design at the Financial Times. I’ve worked as across various industries – fashion, media, luxury, travel, charity and tech. And in August 2022 I’ve launched my own brand consultancy.
In my consultancy we look to work with businesses who are agents of change in their sectors. Our purpose is to brand these businesses in a way that makes them commercially competitive, as we believe that businesses have the power to influence people to make better decisions for the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
London is full of amazing experiences and places, so it’s a tough one to pick, but I would start off with a really nice brunch at the Ned. Then we would do an architecture tour of the Barbican Estate, which is my favourite place in London.
They always have a great exhibition going on, so we would probably check that out. Afterwards I would like to go to the Standard Hotel for a pre-dinner cocktail for the views and the most amazing mid-century inspired interiors.
I would then take them to my local area and have a nice dinner at Angelina’s, in Dalston which is an incredible restaurant.
Other places that I love in London are the Design Museum, Tate Modern, food in Borough Market, shopping around Shoreditch and visiting Regents Park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. He’s been there for me all throughout the toughest and the best times with an unwavering confidence in my abilities.
