We had the good fortune of connecting with Teresa Helgeson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teresa, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?

Knowing whether or not you should keep going really is important to following your path. There are so many experiences that can take place to cause you to question your resolve. When this happens how do you obtain clarity to know whether you should continue or quit? Before I answer this let us first understand why this happens.

Everything happens in its own divine time so what does divine time mean? When you plant a seed in the soil there are many different components that must be in place before the seed will germinate and begin to grow. The soil temperature needs to be right for the type of seed you’ve planted. If it’s too cold or too hot the seed may not sprout. If the soil is lacking the right combination of minerals and nutrients the seed may not germinate. If the soil is too dry or too wet the seed may not develop. All of these fundamental elements need to be blended in just the right way to create a solid foundation on which the seed can become a seedling and grow into a tree, flower, vegetable or some other form of vegetation.

Its the same thing when building a house. You need a solid foundation on which to build upon and if the groundwork is weak the house will fall.

When it comes to evaluating whether to keep going or give up the first thing to consider is the strength of the foundation that you are building in order to manifest your dreams or goals. If the foundational pieces of your project are not all in place it can cause you to question your decision about whether its worth your time to keep going. Understanding divine time helps you accept that everything transpires when the time is perfect which may not be when you think it’s right. There are many things that need to be in place for something to manifest and be sustainable.

But what if you don’t know all the foundational pieces that need to be in place to sustain your vision? This is where you have to let go of the need to know everything and learn to trust the process. To trust the process you have to look for and pay attention to the signs your higher self, your intuition or your divinity is giving you on a daily basis. A sign can look like synchronicities such as seeing the same set of numbers regularly, meeting the right person at the right time, having encounters with wild animals, coming across random articles or signs that relate to your situation, etc. Once you start to pay attention to the signs you can receive clarity about the next steps to take on your path.

However, if the infrastructure is in place and you are questioning your resolve then you need to consider and ask yourself if your heart is into it. Maybe when you started you were excited about it and could see the end product but now you are not. Here you need to consider something most miss and that is how passionate or excited are you about the project, dream or goal? How do you know if your heart is into it? To answer this you must get in touch with your feelings about it and let your heart guide you. How do you do this? First you have to get into a place of stillness and quiet the monkey brain that is constantly talking to you, worry and planning. An easy way to accomplish this is by grounding yourself in nature, sit on the grass barefoot or lay down on the grass and watch the clouds roll by like you may have done as a child. Sit with your back against a tree trunk in silence observing life around you. Just noticing the sounds, the colors ,the smells and doing so without judgement. Just observe the world around you for 15 – 30 minutes and you will find it is easy to get into a place of stillness. Meditation is another great way to get into stillness. Close your eyes, put your hand on your heart, focus on your breath and ask your heart if you should continue to keep going or take a break?

This last part is the hardest and that is to listen to the first thing that comes to your mind without questioning it. The first thought you receive is your answer and you may be surprise by what you hear from your heart. If you are doing something that does not give you joy or make your heart sing then its definitely time to move on.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

On New Year’s Day 2007, instead of making a resolution, I made a declaration that I wanted to have a spiritually enlightening experience for my birthday. At the time I had spent the last 25 years working in corporate America for fortune 50 companies in sales, middle management and training. My two daughters were already grown and living on their own and my son was a junior in high school so my role in life was changing.

Over the next several weeks, I was guided to go on a trip to Italy to visit an eco-spiritual community called the Federation of Damanhur. While there, the group I was with was given an opportunity not shared with most groups and that was to visit the sacred forest and hear the music of the forest. There was a community living in the forest in tree houses like in the movie Robin Hood and there was a web of bridges connecting all the houses together. While standing in the community treehouse, I heard the most angelic music I’d ever heard in my life.

It literally sounded like angels singing so I asked our guide what the name of the CD was so I could purchase it at the gift shop. She took me out onto the porch and showed me this little houseplant that was connected to all this equipment and it was the plant that was playing the music I had been hearing. This community had developed a biofeedback technology that allowed plants to play music as a way for nature to better communicate with humans and for us to connect on a deeper level with nature. We wanted to hear a tree play music so we walked a hundred feet into the forest and connected the equipment to a Birch tree. The music the Birch tree played was very deep, baritone, powerful and majestic like a deeply rooted tree and was the exact opposite of the plant. As soon as the tree started playing music I was taken on my first out of body experience and went on a journey similar to a vision quest. I saw this movie play out before me with lots of different scenarios being displayed with a very big grandiose ending. Then the movie rewound and started over only this time it played in slow motion. I would see each frame of the movie in color and then it would change into a negative black and white picture.

At the moment the picture went from being in color to a negative I would feel my brain and head buzz and I would hear this voice say’ This is what you are going to do with the plant music”. This scenario of seeing each frame in color, turning into a photo negative with my brain and head buzzing then hearing the voice say “This is what you are going to do with the plant music” continued over and over and over until I had seen every frame of the movie with the big grandiose ending. This was an extremely cathartic experience for me as I felt for the first time in my life I knew why I was here. I felt like God, Spirit, The Universe, whatever name you want to give the higher power that connects us all had spoken to me and given me my purpose for being here. I asked our guide if I could buy the equipment and bring it home to the USA and at the time they were not making it to sell. They were using it for research purposes only but after hearing the story of my experience with the Birch tree they made me one of the biofeedback machines.

Upon returning home from my trip I thought I could connect the equipment to my plants and they would play music right away. Wrong! At the time, none of my plants would play and several of them died during the process. I definitely questioned my resolve and wondered if I should quit or keep going. You see, I was one of the first people to bring this technology to the USA and since I could not get my plants to play music I thought I was doing something wrong and that I was failing at my purpose. Plus, no one believed me when I told them plants could play music. My corporate co-workers thought I was crazy and had taken some drugs so the HR Director had a conversation with me suggesting I seek help because they were worried about my mental health. Then I became the joke of the office and management would sarcastically ask me if my plants were playing music while they laughed at me. I learned right away that this was something I couldn’t share with anyone and this was going to be a lonely path to walk.

About a month after returning home, I was meditating in my back yard and I saw the leaf of a plant very vividly show up. The leaf had multiple shades of green with red veins and I heard this voice say “I’m the plant that’s going to teach you about the plant music”. Three days later I walked into my favorite nursery and found a table with 50 plants that had the leaves I saw in my meditation. So I sat and held each and every one of those plants asking if it was the one who had come to me in my meditation until I found the right one. I immediately went home and meditated with the plant and was told it’s name is Pixie and she began teaching me about the elemental kingdom and fairies. She even taught me how and where to build a fairy garden in my back yard and telling me what kinds of plants, rocks and crystals to use.

What I discovered is it was essential for me to learn a few things about building a solid foundation before I could move forward and sustain the vision given to me by the Birch tree. Such as you can’t keep Electric Magnetic Frequencies (EMF) connected to living tissues 24/7 or it will kill them. It was imperative I learn that when you are on the path of your purpose you cannot operate from ego. You have to operate from the perspective of using your purpose to be of service for the highest good of all.

You see, in the beginning I only wanted my plants to play so I could prove to everyone I was not crazy. I was coming at it from an ego perspective versus using it to serve the highest good. It was vital for me to learn the importance of cleaning up my toxic environment internally and externally. My marriage, my thoughts and my home at the time were toxic and I had to clean up the toxicity from all of those areas of my life. It was essential for me to learn what it meant to be of service. Coming from the corporate world I did not have a true understanding of what it meant to be of service but all successful entrepreneurs I new said the key to their success was to be of service. In the corporate world being of service translates to what’s in it for me. There is always an agenda with a client relationship in the corporate world and its all about what I can get from that client. It wasn’t until a friend of mine who was a reiki master ended up in hospice with stage 4 stomach cancer that I learned the true meaning of being of service. I spent six weeks riding my bicycle 4 miles every day to hospice praying along the way for God to show me what I needed to do for her. I did not have an agenda and one of the greatest gifts she ever gave me was learning what it means to truly be of service for the highest good. It also required me to learn to trust that as long as I am on the right path everything will work out for me. Learning to trust is a very BIG challenge for all human beings and the need to feel in control of the details of our lives is an illusionary story we have been told and tell ourselves. This was a big one for me and during the process of cleaning up my toxic world and learning to be of service, I was struggling financially and had almost become destitute. It was during this time I fully surrendered to my path for the first time and once I did that everything started moving forward rather quickly and easily. The struggle was gone and all of a sudden things started falling into place, money started flowing, clients started showing up, opportunities and doors began opening, my confidence grew exponentially and the fire in my belly known as our passion for life started expanding and building. I had finally created a strong enough foundation to begin making my vision manifest but it took me four years to get to this point and have Pixie play music. Remember, everything happens in divine time.

Over the next few years I continued my spiritual journey by becoming a reiki master teacher and sound healer and left the corporate world in 2010 to begin walking my spiritual path. In 2012 while giving a reiki session to a client with cancer, Pixie had been playing music during the treatment and I saw this beautiful energy of green light floating through the air from Pixie to my client. This energy was being sent all over my clients body and it was at this time that I realized there’s something more to the music the plants play. This began my journey into researching the effects of Plant Music Therapy™ on the body, mind and spirit. I have been conducting studies on the healing effects of Plant Music Therapy™ since then and have discovered some amazing things. I am the first person in the world to research the healing effects of the music plants play.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If I had a week to spend with my best friend, we would spend our time receiving sound massages by attending crystal bowl and gong sound baths, attending kirtan events and going to the 5 Star Salt Caves and hot springs. We would enjoy coffee at Sweet Bloom, eat at City O’ City, the Gypsy House Cafe and Rheinlander Bakery. We would go on hikes through Lair O’ the Bear open space park and Hessy Trailhead and if it was in the summer we would go camping on Guanella Pass and Left Hand Canyon where we would spend the evenings around the campfire star gazing and being mesmerized by the Milky Way.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the guidance and help from so many people, Some who have come and gone and others who have stayed and played key roles in my life.

For example, my husband and parents played very important roles in shaping me into who I am today by providing me the experiences I needed to master perseverance, strength, independence and wisdom. My wonderful children taught me how to love unconditionally and I am extremely grateful they chose me to be their mommy. I am thankful Dr. Melinda Connor took me under her wing and guided me through the world of science and research. The people of the Federation of Damanhur had one of the the biggest impacts on my adult life when they introduced me to the singing plants and opened me up to hear and see my path. The singing Birch Tree changed my life forever for it revealed my life purpose in the perfect way, shape and form. I am forever connected to and appreciative to the Birch tree and how it changed my life. My beautiful girlfriends Marilyn, Catherine, Iva Lou and Randi have shown me how to feel safe being vulnerable and have supported my dreams every step of the way. Pixie for teaching me about the plant music and guiding this work every step of the way. Paden for teaching me what it means to be of service. Mary and Ged Kirk of Damanhur Colorado for supporting me and Pixie on our journey. Cristina Smith for supporting me and my work. PsyTek Labs for helping me with my research. Joyce Jarrell, Garrett Duncan, Raven Elise and Cheryl Ramsey for helping me get the word out to a bigger audience. Halonah Paiss for the lovely documentary she did on plant music. Amber Helgeson, Shayde Bennett, Peyton Foley, Alfonzo Herrera and Meredith Sagara for coming to my rescue and helping me with the Hemp Expo on such short notice. Rebecca Kidd for helping my research. Pamela Curlee for her monetary support of our research through the years. Suzanne Detlefsen for being the first healing center to use our music remedies for her clients. Shiela Gaylord for your prayers and support through the years. Hillary Hilliard for your generous donation to our research. Dr. Paul Kordis for supporting my research. Zebulon Krol for mixing the music. Ralph Macintyre for building my first website. Ellen McCarty for being the best business coach. Allison McPherson for being my marketing advisor. Ellen Smoak for being my business coach. Darity Wesley for your legal services. And last but not least, I’d like to thank Robert Hall for funding the pivotal research that showed us how Plant Music Therapy™️ has the potential to change the way we do Medicine.

I am honored all of these people have been in my life and helped mold me into the person I am today.
