We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrence Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrence, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’ve never sold my photography with any noteworthy success, it’s always been a passion in communication, whether it be abstract dark skies or a statement of the dark sky movement I wish to support.
Having grown up under dark-ish skies in Indiana and watching the glow of nearby cities grow, I became alarmed to the realities of LED’s and general over illumination ruining our pristine dark sky landscapes.
With no photoshopping, merely stacking in very basic software, I aim to capture an ethereal view of what really happened out there on a given night. I started Moab Dark Skies Initiative as a Facebook community effort to convince Moab, Utah city council to protect the incredible asset they have out there… thankfully another excellent group got the effort over the finish line and a 5 year plan was enacted!
It would be my dream to apply these efforts to Denver, however a city of such size and surroundings makes it a daunting task indeed.
But I attempted a light weight page anyways.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Trial and error, rinse and repeat. Failures are essentially the only way to success in my experience.
Most people are incapable of taking a big step back and just start making the changes to lifestyle that might better facilitate their dream or goal.
Comfort is a trick. For we only truly live when without it. Too philosophical, but you asked.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Backcountry Pizza and Taphouse in Boulder & Ned always my go-to.
However I usually follow the weather and light and it’s not uncommon for me to drive 6 hours across the state and end up on a completely new adventure, destinations unknown.
That blows peoples minds lol.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Any person that lifts us is worthy of a shout out, my Uncle Mike nudged me into photography with an SLR before I became digitized… he’s no longer with us so I’ll pass his shout out to Walt VanRheen, whom taught me to dream even bigger.
