Meet Tevin Evans | Stylist and Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tevin Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tevin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because I had a choice to make between choosing to myself and my happiness or follow the expectations placed upon me by others. For a while I tried really hard to convince myself that a corporate setting could work for me but I’m too much of a colorful person for that

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a plus size model whose body isn’t always deemed socially acceptable I’ve had to work twice as hard to be visible within the fashion and art world. While many brands have started to offer a range of extended sizes they still cater to a niche body type. I look a my work as an act of defiance. With every project I work on, I seek to work with artist who see and understand my blackness and my body and want to honor it. I approach every new project as an opportunity to continue telling my story through the photographers lenses

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So anyone who knows me knows there’s three things that I love to do on a night out, sing, get drinks and dance! For nights out my top picks are Le Bain: this spot is really unique it’s got two floors to dance and have fun and features an indoor pool that’s perfect for taking a dip. The Monster bar in the village is the perfect spot to go if you wanna fun night dancing or you wanna sing a tune at the piano! On Thursday and Saturday nights they host a super fun party called Spunk. The musics hot and the guys are even hotter. When it comes to food I love exploring new places and I’m always drawn to hole in the wall spots that just genuinely feel warm and cozy. Some of my favorite restaurants are 99 favor taste. They offer Korean bbq and hot pot and it’s the perfect place to go if you’re looking for something that gets everyone at the table talking. I really love spaces where I can have intimate moments with friends so I tend to frequent the same places all the time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tarik Carrol is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met and had the privilege of working with and calling a friend. Tarik’s love for his artistry as a photographer and as a body diversity activist has inspired me in so many ways. I am thankful for the role he plays in so many of our lives giving visibility to so many marginalized people.
