We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany McCoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
I do have a budget because I am living in community corrections. Here we must have a strict budget. I can only spend 10 percent of my earnings on things that I want. I make choices based on what’s most important to me but it is also important for me to spend money simply on things that make me happy. The budget has been a good thing because soon I will be released and I have a big chunk of money saved for my transition.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as a producer at Colorado Radio for Justice started while I was incarcerated. I had been in prison for 14 years when I started at the radio. I had to learn how to use technology again like a computer. Then I got out of prison and while I’m learning how to edit pieces and interview I’m also learning how to use a laptop and a iPhone and email. It has not been easy but it’s been really fun. I’ve done some interviews with other women living inside the halfway house with me which is something very unique.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is an interesting question for me because after being incarcerated for 16 years I really don’t know whats out here to do. I would love to take my friend just driving around on a summer night. Windows down, wind blowing in our face. Then sit on the rooftop of a building and eat good food while we talk about life and laugh and sing. To me it’s not about where I go but more about who I’m with. I’d love to do this with my person, when I find love. I’d love to go to a concert that is outside on a summer night. Maybe Coldplay. Or the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out goes to the men and women still incarcerated. The ones I spent years of my life with and who are still encouraging me to this day. I would also like to give a shout out to everyone who is still on this journey with me. Everyone who supported me when I was released and helped me to be successful out here, especially my brother Weldon McCoy.
