We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Miller Blooms and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began wearing flowers in my hair 12 years ago. I noticed the lack of creativity and quality in the flowers. While on a trip to D.C., I met a beautiful red sunflower in the middle of the square. I was inspired at that moment to create my own. I purchased supplies and began creating blooms in 2012. I gave my Honey Mama my first batch of blooms for her 60th BloomDay (birthday) and she loved them. FlyBlooms has been blooming ever since.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Joy is my brand story. I create joy through colorful accessories, the joy expressed through poetry, the joy I experience as a coach when guiding others to live in their purpose. Joy is all around me and it’s essential to everything that I do and create. Joy will be and is my life’s legacy work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
OOOH. What a great question. I might be a foodie Breakfast at Mad Rooster, Sweet Diner, Sam’s Place or Golden Nest would be priority. We definitely need to stop by Colectivo for coffee and chat on the beautiful patio space they have.
Lunch would happen at Milwaukee Public Market specifically St. Paul Fish Market and their Lobster Roll that rivals anyplace out east. Happy hour at Tropic MKE. They have THEEEEEEE best Jerk Chicken Pizza, Jerk Nachos and Wings in the city. The drinks are available with or without alcohol too. The vibe is always positive which adds to a joyful experience.
I hope my best friend is visiting on the 1st Friday so we can check out DJ Bizzon at Company Brewing. Dance all night to a variety of music. St. Kate offers live music and art daily.
And my favorite place of all – Bronzeville Milwaukee. We definitely need to stop at my store, The Bronzeville Collective which houses over 30 Black, Brown, Queer and Ally owned businesses in the city of Milwaukee and beyond. America’s Black Holocaust Museum is right across the street and great eats at PepperPot is in walking distance.
We definitely need to meet Venice Williams at Alice’s Garden and walk the labyrinth or shop the creative market. It’s one of the most peaceful places in the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother – my Honey Mama is my biggest inspiration and joy. She continues to inspire me even as she exists in my life as an ancestor angel. Growing up, my mom would tell us to “Learn Something” everyday. This was her version of “I love you” and so my siblings and I would not be able to leave the house unless we heard her say those two small yet powerful words. “Learn Something.” I learned how to be a the creative I am through powerful storytelling. Ma would share how she would sew an outfit before going to school. I never saw my Ma sew but I intuitively know how to sew. I create my own patterns and go for it. Ma transitioned from this earth in December 2019. My family and I had the opportunity to reciprocate all the love she gave to us and she had no choice but to receive it in full. Ma taught us to cherish the gift of time and left us with this beautiful Love Legacy that is rooted in an abundance of joy. Ma continues to guide my journey and encourages me to bloom in beautiful ways.
My family is absolutely amazing. Ma was the glue that held us together and her love legacy continues to keep us close together. It’s incredible to have a supportive family. They have been encouraging me to go full-time with entrepreneurship for years and that dream came to fruition on August 5th. I can and will only succeed from here.
