Meet Tim Meehan: Co-Founder of Gear Up, makers of the Gear Saver

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Meehan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Practicality was the reason we founded Gear Up and developed our first product, the Gear Saver.. Years ago, I like thousands of cyclists, kayakers and others who carry gear on the roof of their cars, I crashed my bikes into my garage when I forgot they were were on my roof rack. After crashing my car into the garage and destroying both my bike and my daughter’s bike I knew there was a better way to keep expensive gear safe and thus, the Gear Saver was born…out of practicality…to keep gear worth thousands of dollars safe from unnecessary breakage. If this product could help me, our team decided it could be used to help many many others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a retired veteran of the United States Army. Currently, I am a law enforcement officer in Aurora, Colorado. Since I was a boy I wanted to work in a field that helped people and kept them safe. This is not an easy job but I felt a call to both the military and law enforcement and couldn’t be happier with my decision. I am also a very passionate mountain biker. I travel across the U.S. to find the best trails…from North Carolina to California. My passion for gear is what I want people to know about our brand…we developed this product, The Gear Saver, to help people like me to keep gear on roof racks safe. This gear typically costs thousands upon thousands of dollars and now for a small price, we have a device to help keep gear from being driven in to garages or other types of overhangs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend mountain biking as we have so many world class trials and singletracks in Southern Colorado. We would maybe go to one of our fantastic breweries too. As for food, so many options, but after a day or a week of riding, PIZZA is the key to refueling!
