We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had been teaching art in schools and doing public art projects while my children were growing up. I was working as a solo artist in my own studio when the opportunity to move into a larger space presented itself. I jumped in with both feet realizing that a community art space was needed in the Longmont area. Now I have a pottery studio where I teach and have members practicing their craft, an art gallery where I host openings and two office spaces that are currently rented by therapists and spiritual mediums.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I tend to be all over the board artistically. I’m a potter/ mosaic artist/ stained glass creator. I like to keep it fresh and spontaneous.
I started my career working in schools and doing public art projects while my children were growing up. Giving back to the community had always been something I’m passionate about. I’ve done several Artist in Residence projects in local schools, I participated in the Geese Galore project in Longmont. My goose earned the most money for the city. I also created a bench for the breezeway in Longmont which won the popular vote as the best bench which earned money for my sponsor to give to the charity of their choice. Then, I acquired a studio space where I began teaching adults.

I tend to trust my gut when it comes to making changes. My advice would be: follow your heart, work hard, and be kind.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Longmont has a great variety of coffee shops, sandwich/ lunch restaurants and dining options. I’d definitely share downtown with a guest. I’d also take her to the Wildlife Sanctuary in Keensburg. A wonderful organization that rescues lions and tigers and bears from unnatural conditions. Rocky Mountain National Park is a must as well. Finally, taking advantage of Longmont’s bike trails would be on the to-do list.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a young child, I’ve always been interested in art. All my art teachers along the way were instrumental in my development as an artist. My college experience opened my eyes to so many creative outlets as well. I tend to gravitate towards artistic types. I befriended my children’s art teachers who I admire and respect. My husband, Jeffrey Davis has always been my main supporter. He has my back whenever I have ideas to move forward. Also, Alan Hodges, our good friend and GC who literally builds my visions into reality.
