Meet Tom Benway | Technologist / Web Developer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tom Benway and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tom, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
My biggest takeaway from being an entrepreneur is always continuing to learn. Every year I try to push myself to learn a new skill, gain more experience with something I lack insight in, or read more books and articles about the industry itself.
I try to learn from my customers, too – especially if I end up in a consulting situation where we’re sharing knowledge.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I always knew I wanted to run my own business. I didn’t feel like I fit in with other organizations and just didn’t like having a boss. I often disagreed with their methods or creative direction.
I struggled at first since I wouldn’t say I am a “people person” – I’m a stereotypical quiet programmer. But, over the years I have learned to be more personable and to set up processes for keeping up with communication.
I am most proud of leveraging my abilities as a designer and a programmer into my daily business. I try to stay hands-on with everything we create and I constantly strive to grow my skillsets and knowledge to the latest trends.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My wife and I live in Congress Park, a lil south of Denver, and have been here for years because we love the environment!
The neighborhood has an old hipster vibe, and there a lots of walkable shops, restaurants and bars.
I always take visiting friends for a trip down Colfax to take in Denver’s history.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really want to give a shoutout to my college, which sadly isn’t in business here anymore – the Art Institute of Colorado.
I knew early on when shopping around for a college to attend that I didn’t like the environments or the curriculum of the regular state and metro universities.
The Art Institute gave me that small art school vibe, and had professors that were able to give me the foundation that I still rely on today.
