We had the good fortune of connecting with TQ Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TQ, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career in cosmetology because I’ve always been drawn to transformation—the process of taking an idea and bringing it to life. From a young age, I recognized that I had an artistic vision and a natural inclination toward creativity. While some people thrive in structured, analytical fields, I’ve always leaned toward artistic expression, where there are no limits to imagination. Cosmetology allows me to merge artistry with skill, using hair as my canvas to create something unique for each client. It’s not just about styling—it’s about seeing potential, embracing individuality, and crafting a vision that enhances beauty in a way that’s both personal and powerful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career in cosmetology has been anything but conventional. I’ve been counted out because of my faith, my ethnicity, and my age. I’ve had to prove myself over and over again, but I stand here today knowing that what sets me apart isn’t just my skill—it’s my hunger. If you have even two strands of hair, I can do wonders, not because of talent alone but because of my passion and purpose.

When I first entered this industry, I followed business models that worked for other people, only to realize that my calling required something different. Shear Revelation isn’t just a salon; it’s a space where transformation goes beyond hair. It’s built on biblical principles, honoring God first, allowing me to maintain a steady work-life rhythm, and creating an environment where clients are truly seen, valued, and cared for. Your hair is simply a byproduct of the love and excellence poured into you.

This journey has not been easy. I’ve underpriced my work for exposure, stretched myself thin to hit income goals, and made compromises because I didn’t yet understand my worth. I lost my joy at times, but God used those challenges to refine me. Now, I walk in boldness, knowing that the true demand isn’t just for the types of services I offer—it’s for the quality and experience I provide.

Shear Revelation is unlike any other salon. It’s where artistry meets divine purpose. When you sit in my chair, you’re not just receiving a service; you’re stepping into an atmosphere of renewal, confidence, and transformation that goes deeper than just appearance. My work is a ministry in its own right, and I am beyond grateful for the doors that continue to open as I walk in this calling.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting Colorado Springs for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the best of what the city has to offer—great food, fun events, and some creative adventures.

One of the first stops would be Luchal’s, not just for their amazing atmosphere but for the events they host. Whether it’s Gospel Karaoke Night, where you can sing your heart out with good vibes all around, or Boots and Denim Night, which brings that Southern, laid-back energy, Luchal’s knows how to create a space where people can come together and enjoy themselves.

Of course, we’d have to eat well, so Creole Roots would be a must. Their gumbo is rich and flavorful, and their catfish is some of the best you’ll find outside of Louisiana. Then for a little island flavor, High Grade Foods Jamaican Restaurant serves up the kind of jerk chicken and oxtail that makes you feel like you’ve taken a quick trip to Jamaica.

For fun, Dave & Buster’s is always a go-to spot—arcade games, great drinks, and an atmosphere that makes for the perfect night out. But I also love exploring the hidden gems around the city, especially for photo shoots and creative experiences. Paint Mines Interpretive Park is a dream for photographers, with its colorful rock formations that look like something out of another world. And for a little nostalgic fun, the Penny Arcade in Manitou Springs is packed with vintage games that bring out the inner child in everyone.

To wrap up the trip, a karaoke night is a must—because nothing beats good music, good company, and the chance to let loose and sing your heart out. Colorado Springs has plenty of spots for it, and it’s always the best way to end an unforgettable week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to Stephanie Wright—an incredibly talented stylist, a true professional, and someone whose heart for others is just as radiant as her artistry. We first met by chance at Salon Centric, but looking back, I know it was a divine connection. I was immediately drawn to her light—she’s such a beautiful person, inside and out. From that day on, she became more than just an industry peer; she became a mentor, a supporter, and a friend.

Stephanie has played a significant role in my growth—not just as a stylist but as a business operator. She helped me build confidence in areas I hadn’t fully stepped into, listened to my color ideas, and gave me the guidance I needed to achieve the best results. Her candor, her passion for people, and her unwavering dedication to her craft make her stand out in this industry. She is truly a fire stylist based in El Paso, TX, and anyone who sits in her chair or has the privilege of working with her knows they’re in the presence of greatness.

Stephanie, thank you for showing up exactly when I needed you. Your professionalism, your craftsmanship, and your genuine care for others make you an inspiration. I appreciate you more than words can say!
