We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracey Gurley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved to create, from making clay bowls in the creek when I was a child until today and beyond. I wanted to share my colorful artwork from my point of view and to bring happiness to others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I actually didn’t start taking art lessons until my daughter was in preschool. It was something I had always wanted to do. Growing up, I played the piano and violin. So, when I became a stay at home mom, I decided to go for it and start on my art journey…that was about 23 years ago. Persistence is how I got where I am today. I love to continue to learn new things and grow. It’s not always easy, but I guarantee you, it’s worthwhile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow! For a week long trip, we could do lots of things. I’m in the middle of North Carolina, so we have the mountains and the coast. First in Raleigh, we could go to the North Carolina Museum of Art. We could also visit downtown and go to galleries, museums, and other fun places. My absolute favorite place to eat in Raleigh is at The Angus Barn.

We could kayak or jet ski near my home or take a day trip to the beach. We could also head to the beautiful mountains and visit Biltmore. We could also visit my favorite place in the mountains which is Blowing Rock. It’s a beautiful little town with lots of art. Last time I was there, my husband and I visited a wonderful craft show they had. There were amazing artists and crafters from all around the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and daughter are my biggest fans. They both encourage me to pursue my dreams and do what makes my heart happy.
