We had the good fortune of connecting with Troy Ismir and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Troy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
It is very easy to get comfortable and complacent in our lives. I was cruising along in a pharmaceutical career for 17 years making excellent money with all of the safety and security benefits that go along with being in that industry, but yet I was hopelessly unfulfilled.

After much contemplation and struggle, I finally made the leap of faith to leave the pharmaceutical industry to start my own men’s coaching business.

I also decided a change of location was something I wanted to take on as well. Not only did I quit my six figure job, I moved from Orlando, Florida after living there for twenty years, to have a fresh start in Fort Collins, Colorado.

I have come to realize that life is about taking chances not knowing how it’s going to turn out. I call it the Divine adventure. There is always something to learn about ourselves when we lean into our edge getting out of our comfort zone.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Through my own personal struggles and challenges and a deep calling on my heart, I have been called to work with men who are struggling with their own personal fulfillment in life.

To call myself a coach, would not really be accurate. The best name I could come up with is a Courageous Soul Guide. As a Courageous Soul Guide I help men get out of our self-imposed pain, suffering and isolation by taking a chance on ourselves living a life that feels true to our soul. I help men get back to their true nature of peace, joy and inner freedom.

What I love about my work is I get to see men transform their lives from the inside out right before my very eyes. Too many men today are lost souls wandering aimlessly in the desert. In my work with men I help them heal from not knowing who they are in today’s world caught up in family, social and religious conditioning.

I do one-on-one work with men, along with leading Men of Courageous Souls which is a consciousness raising support group. I also lead men’s retreats and silent retreats.

The biggest challenge I have faced in creating this business is myself. The struggle with self-doubt and the ability to believe in myself enough to put this work out there. I have had to overcome my social conditioning that my worth and value is based on how much money I make and how many social media followers I have.

I had to let all of that go and simply follow the calling that was put on my heart. If I can help one man help himself get out of quiet desperation, it is all worthwhile.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado is such an amazing state. So much to do and explore. I am a passionate golfer, so the first thing we would do is go play one of my favorite golf courses in Castle Rock, Red Hawk Ridge. The views are incredible.

We would of course have to climb a 14er. Mount Bierstadt would be a good one to start with. Beautiful views and not too extreme.

No trip would be complete without a trip to Red Rocks Amphitheater. Words can’t describe the stunning views and the experience of being at a concert there.

For restaurants and some down time, Great Divide Brewery in Castle Rock is a great place to hang out and enjoy some local food. We would grab some ice cream right next door at Glacier Castle Rock Ice Cream and Gelato and then go hang out in Festival Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been many people along the way that have supported me along my journey of taking chances and starting my own business. My two adult children, Travis and Sydney, have always been my biggest supporters and encouragers. They are both my best friends who always believe in me no matter what path I am on, for that I am extremely grateful.

The other person in my life who has had a significant impact in my life is Kimberly Dawson. We have been working together for almost eight years. She is a dear friend, coach and mentor and knows more about me than anyone else. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her seeing all of the possibilities within me.
