We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Skillman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is not only am I trying to catch someone’s attention with my music, I’m also trying to make it relatable as well!! I personally love music that stands out to people and helps them in a way more than just listening to the song and vibing with it. I want my music to leave an impact on someone for a better cause and I want to be as different and authentic as I can.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It all started my senior year at school. I wrote music before hand but that is the year I started taking it seriously. My brother Nick and pat and friend rigz started doing shows opening up for people such as, Stevie stone, Jehry Robinson, etc. They got the chance to open up for my favorite artist king iso and they invited me to perform with them. At first I was skeptical and nervous but I agreed to do it, and ever since I stepped on that stage I fell in love with it and music. Since then I have continued to do shows and make music but have taken a little break with shows, I’ve done 37 shows so far opening up for artists including “ token, doobie, king iso, Chris webby, x raided etc. one thing I learned as doing shows is it gets hard to sell tickets but you can overcome it!!! People tend to buy tickets when a big artist is performing but it’s harder to sell tickets for local shows and that’s a challenge that I’m looking to overcome. Along the way I’ve also learned that just because an artist is good doesn’t mean he has good intentions you gotta protect your peace and your energy and remember it’s more then just rap. I want the world to know that there will only be one me and I won’t change who I am for this music and I will continue to bring you guys authentic and real music from my heart.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was here for a week, I’d love to take them to the mountains. It is so beautiful up there and to just be able to go on a walk and see the scenery is a blessing. I would also take them up to old town and show them rocket fizz pinball jones etc, there is also a bunch of unique food in old town we could try out. I personally love sports so I would also show them the arena football team we have Colorado Spartans and take them to a game of those, I haven’t been to one in ages but I remember those always being a time of your life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my brother Patrick and my brother Nick and my family and my friends. Growing up my dad was in a band and we all got to see him perform at bars and shows, it then turned into my brother pat rapping. He could go so fast it was crazy would blow my mind everytime, it started to motivate my brother Nick to write music and then me. at first I didn’t think I would be good at it, but the more I wrote with my brothers the more comfortable and better I got. I’m truly grateful for them, some honorable mentions would be Rigz, Tuck nuisance, Code vii, ADG, TLD, Poe, Punchline3nt, and the collective my brothers are in rollin good records. They have all been a great help with helping me evolve and become better not only as an artist but as a person. They are all incredibly talented in their own ways and I’m glad to have a strong group of people with me, I also am very grateful for my friends and all there support, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be as motivated as I am with music and it’s truly all love for them.
