We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Salaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Veronica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are a few things behind my success. I tend to work very hard and consistent. If I notice something isn’t working, I change up my game until I find what does work. My brain doesn’t shut off, I am always gathering new ideas. Also, once I get an idea in my head regarding a business move, I tend to go full blast at it. My energy level with business is like that little energizer bunny.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have owned several businesses in my life. I tend to build my businesses from the ground up and after I build them up, I tend to feel less challenged so I sell it and start a completely new one. I come from generations of small business owners so it’s kind of in the blood. I have built two restaurants, a coffee and Boba shop, a hair studio, a couple of dress shops, vended at shows, built the Miss Southern Colorado Style Scholarship Pageant, taught college business courses and currently am an event promoter. I thrive off of challenges and being an entrepreneur is full of challenges. This might sound like a little challenge but I don’t like paperwork. Paperwork is a challenge and boredom sets in. I rather be selling something or working with customers and employees than managerial paperwork. Making myself keep on top of paperwork has been my greatest challenge in all of my businesses. I overcome this challenge by working off lists, and setting specific times to tackle paperwork, payroll, answering inquiries etc. One of my favorite parts of being a bisiness owner is sharing my stories of success with people. I try to inspire others by encouraging people to get an idea and know that they can accomplish it. One of my favorite mottos is :wake up, kick butt, repeat! There are several affirmations in my bathroom and I glance at them as I get ready for the day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to some of Colorado’s beautiful mountain hot springs. Mt St Princeston is a great getaway. I would play some cool 70’s music and chill in the Rocky mountain sunshine. There is a little old school diner in beautiful Trinidad, Colorado that has amazing burgers and fries. This little hole in the wall Lee’s Barbque would be on that itinerary well. There are many great Colorado festivals to attend, including my event Oddity, Mystical and Steampunk Sorei coming in March. This event will be held in my home town of Pueblo, Colorado. It features Oddity vendors, Steampunk vendors, psychic readers, curanderas, Shamanic Journey, aerial acrobatics, a sword swallower and so much more!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father always told me if any one can accomplish a feat, it was me. He instilled in my mind that I could do anything I wanted. Because of my dad, I had a lot of confidence! My dad would say that I was born hard headed and always determined. It sure helped having him in my corner. I can say that he would not catch me when I would fall though, so maybe that helped me to learn from my mistakes and be independent.
