We had the good fortune of connecting with Wadi Muhaisen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wadi, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind my success that I always strive for are authenticity, emotional intelligence, and healthy boundaries. This applies to all aspects of life; but particularly in my field, people are often facing very stressful times in their lives and my authentic voice attracts them as clients and resonates with them when I help them through the crisis. Most lawyers are very intelligent; but score low in emotional perception, empathy, and regulation. Essentially, people respond to people; as the face of my law firm, I am my business, so I let my genuine personality shine through with clients, with adversaries, and in the community. Finally, it is paramount to maintain healthy boundaries by keeping a good work culture and balanced workload, and also to maintain non-negotiable personal interests and passions. A curious, balanced lawyer or business owner is a more content and successful one.

What should our readers know about your business?
When I was sworn in as a lawyer, my brother Jay Muhaisen and I turned down offers from big law firms to found our own fledgling firm. It was a slog and very difficult, but we put in the sweat equity to build our practice one client at a time. We embraced risk and defied legal industry conventional wisdom to grow our practice. After early growing pains and many lessons learned, our practice is in its 18th year and thriving. We are able to advise, assist, and give peace of mind to our many clients, and are able to continue our firm’s long history of giving back to the community. Today Muhaisen & Muhaisen, LLC is a firm that helps get justice for injured people, helps clients achieve their dream of US citizenship, represent individuals and businesses in court, help families stay together, helps clients transition from difficult marriages, and stand with accused clients that are innocent or make a mistake. We only employ talented legal professionals that believe the law is not just a job, but a calling and profession. Our clients are people not merely case numbers. We are a client-focused small firm, but with attorneys who are always in court and have vast litigation experience. I believe in the science and art of legal advocacy and imbue this ethos to my staff. This sets us apart from even the big law firms whose attorneys rarely enter a courtroom and who view their clients as commodities not human beings.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After paying homage to Mustang at DIA a.k.a. Bluecifer, we will start each day by enjoying great coffee at Little Owl, Novo, or Crema. We would enjoy the area where I work in historic Larimer Square, Take in areas including Union Station, Lodo, Central Business District, and the Civic Center area.. Lunches and dinners in our fantastic restaurants in Lodo, RINO, or the Northside (Highlands), then perhaps live jazz at Nocturne or Dazzle, or a show at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret. Nightcaps at one of the many historic bars such as the Cruise Room. Day trips to the foothills to check out some of my spots there, followed by dinners in Idaho Springs or Golden, and then taking in live theater and cocktails at the excellent Miners Alley Playhouse in Golden. Exploration of the Denver areas vast ethnic food offerings whether it be authentic Jalisco birria stew, underground Persian food (shhhh), spicy curries and biryani, tongue-numbing Sichuan Chinese, or Turkish pizza.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I grew up in my late father Fouad Muhaisen’s grocery stores. He could connect with anyone and made every person he encountered feel like the only person in the room. I learned a great deal from seeing him interact with people. Professionally, my co-workers, many clients, my adversaries in law, and several judges keep me challenged and excited about the field I’ve chosen. Finally, I am blessed to be surrounded by so many creative, curious, and good-hearted friends and acquaintances in the community. Whether business owners, academics, artists, musicians, or civic or community activists, I am never at a loss for inspiration in work, interests, or life.
