We had the good fortune of connecting with Walter Seegrist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Walter, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was at a point in my life I either was going to continue to search for a company with employment or become the company that people came to for employment. So I started my own company without knowing much about but how to just work hard.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This company was the idea of a vision I had. Like most things it was forged thru the fire in my life. I didn’t think it would ever take on such a life of its own. During the pandemic most companies crumbled but mine was created and catapulted. I was going thru what a lot of people faced. The company I was working for was closing the doors. And not going to in operation anymore. And it was on and off. But it was when I was finally let go one day I decided I wasn’t going back. One week I was going from being the top welder they loved so much to the next week the welder they was getting rid of. And I was fired over a text message. What had the chicken shit world come too. I actually didn’t even see the text and showed up the next day. They had to fire me on the spot them haters. You know who you are! Never again would I kiss ass. I was determined to make my own company at that point. A solid one of true values. So thru so many trials and error I figured it out. I’m unstoppable. I started this company and I haven’t looked back. It was hard I can’t lie. Nothing easy about establishing yourself from ground zero. Like reinventing myself basically. The only things I had going for me was… I could sale I was a salesman. I could sale what I could do and that was weld. And because I could weld I could work hard. So with the formulas of hard work talent and determination I was able to successful in my own ways. So outta my garage just like anyone I started building. Eventually I started teaching. And then I started getting work and working my students. Now that’s all I do is chase work and help those who have help me or I have taught. If ya wanna be rich you will have to enrich the lives around you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have friends and family visit often and depending on what time of the year is what the activities include. But I enjoy definitely taking them to our lil local restaurants the towns have to offer. The food is always great and if they enjoy the out doors that’s where I prefer to be. A lot of my lil places are gems and my exciting adventures are for the us to enjoy without to much crowds for I don’t do that often. If there is events we do enjoy those for the crowds so we always checking to see who is in town or where the crowds at at them times to mingle. A lot people enjoy the winter so I always suggest lodging at either keystone or in Breckinridge. They are close. But my best advice always about that is we rise early we ride early. I’m a motorcross guy so I’m all about trails and camping in the summer. Family man so it’s all for the wife and kids and the live for the wild life. I’m a wild man I gotta live a wild life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The list goes on and on for the support has been tremendous in my life. I can try and keep it short. It’s starts with my dear aunt Triquet who had the opportunity at hand for me to begin my journey into welding. She deserves the most credit for this journey of mine that unfolded. So thank you my dear aunt Turky I love you from the bottom of my heart. As far as welding man I had the best mentors a man could have. From Keith Robison at Rescar. Man wherever you are in this tiny atmosphere thank you for showing me how to run my first ever welding test. My next dear mentors who I hold dear to my hood are sadly no longer with me. Two men who molded the beginning and deserved so much credit. First it was my boy Luke Stover. Man I miss ya daily. I lost Luke 3 years into my journey. He was the one who first people to put his arms around me and showed me how to weld . Tears streaming my face as I write this. The pain is so real in my heart for my loss of him. Shatter to find out he was on his way to work and passed out at the wheel. Was ejected and died instantly. Tragic to me! But Luke had lead me to my next mentor. Tim Grieves at Colorado railcar mfg. Tim was my idol. I wanted to be just like him in every way. He sculpted my focus in life. And when I saw opportunity he didn’t stop me. Sadly I had to say goodbye to Tim. He passed early in my life too. No one hears this type Of stories outta me . It’s all personal. I had to go to the hospital to say my goodbyes knowing it was the last time I’d see him. I promised Tim I’d carry the torch he passed to me. It was one of the saddest moments of my life. But like I said I’d to carry the torch and my soul was on fire for the path he ignited. Tim and I were on the discovery channel for building the high end passenger cars. He even had the Rocky Mountain news paper write a article on me. You was everything to me Tim. The next two mentors were the most important in my life to where I am today but first it was Nick Tinsley. That man is a legend. His legacy lives on thru me. I couldn’t have been taught how to weld no finner in life then by him. I owe all my welding talent to him for fine skill. I love that man for he molded me. The last one I have is Dan Smith. Dude I owe you a lot of credit. Dan taught me how to build things I never imagined. He took me into the life of my career I have today. He helped me become the the business man I am today he took me from zero to HERO! Dan made sure I was to be successful and when I started my company it was him and Nick who shot me in the right direction every time with no hesitation. Also wanna give a shout out to all my family my true friends who don’t fall off and of course all of my amazing fans across the globe I owe you a lot too you teach me too!
