We had the good fortune of connecting with William Pellegrini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We wanted to introduce the culture and the world of f*ke food from Japan to the United States. In addition, we wanted to share our artisans’ skills of making fake food with as many people as possible. There are a lot of magnet collectors and foodies who love our products and we are happy that many people are becoming interested in what we have to offer.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art background is sort of complicated so I will keep it brief. I have always been involved in drawing, painting and design and I have a lot of design background and experience. Throughout the years I have designed and created many things and I am still doing that today. Professionally, I am still not where I want to be and I am trying to find my way. My career has sort of dried up and I am still trying to adapt, after 4 years. I recently just finished the designing of our company’s packaging.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I live in NYC so there are so many things to do and see. Unfortunately, like most things, the city has changed a lot, especially since COVID. I have lived here a long time but I am not too up-to-date with a lot of the new tourist or even native spots. If I had to choose a few things I would take them to the top of Rockefeller center for the view and to a few places in Hudson Yards. Then we would we head uptown to Harlem to see the APOLLO theater and have dinner at SYLVIA’S soul food restaurant.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I guess there is a little something inside all of us that drives us to become more than what we already are. Or at least that is true for me. We started this business with the idea and hope that everyone who sees and purchases our products are amazed by what another culture has to offer and that what is already a part of their daily can now become a part of theirs.
