Meet Wyatt Reed | Cabinet Installer & Custom Woodworker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wyatt Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wyatt, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up I was surrounded by business owners. My grandfather, AKA papa, showed me that hard work, friendly handshakes and determination can create a lifestyle for you and your family like no other. Through my father, he has shown me the skill, overhead costs and career that owning a carpentry business can create. Through working with multiple different employers throughout the years, I have learned and created my own style. I decided to start High Altitude Carpentry because I knew my value and worth of the work I was able to output, and the only way to truly grow in this business is to go out on your own, push your own limits, and turn people’s dreams into a reality.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Having a keen eye for detail is what really allows me to stand out from others. Working in different settings from custom homes to your average single family home, I have learned techniques that make even the most challenging jobs turn out looking good. Through hard work and perseverance, I was able to get to where I am at today. Keeping my main goal in mind; building cabinets from scratch, overseeing a whole remodel project and eventually building my own custom homes. Was it easy?? Of course it wasn’t, as if inconsistent income and job flow isn’t terrifying enough, you need to make sure you have all the equipment to complete the job and enough money to purchase the business overhead costs. Starting your own business is no easy fleet, but going through the struggles and rough patches, has made me appreciate the hard work it has taken and the joyful road it has created. Many times I did want to quit, but when I take a step back at the finished product – that is really when I can appreciate the craftsmanship. Listening to the clients adore their new kitchen, or receiving photos months after the job is completed to see the bookshelf you brought to life in full use. That is why I would not have it any other way. I would like the world to know that High Altitude Carpentry is where dreams are brought to life, using our craftmanship and your dreams, together we will create the vision.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living and growing up in Colorado Springs, CO there are some staple places which everyone should check out. Garden of the Gods with the beautiful high peaks that people can climb, driving to the top of Pikes Peak or watching professionals race up it in the fall. Manitou Springs has always been a cool spot to enjoy some food, do some local shopping and try natural springs. The best place to eat in town is The Warehouse Restaurant and Gallery owned by Shaundy & James Africano, who not only has local game foods to try but also the best happy hour.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate shoutouts to my father, who has introduced me to the trade and allowed me to grow a passion for woodworking and carpentry. To my papa for inspiring me to start my own business, and teaching me the marketing it takes to evolve in any industry. Lastly I would like to thank my wife, the toughest part about being a business owner is keeping true to your vision when times get tough. She is always there to motivate me to continues to push me towards my dreams, even when times get tough.
