Meet Zac Fabian: Videographer & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zac Fabian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zac, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
The work-life balance, simply put, is important. However, It’s not something that is easy to develop. I can speak from my own experience with a home office and working at home often. For one, I find myself spending too much time on the computer. Most days to continue operating and meet deadlines, I must focus on never-ending to-do lists. The constant demand to focus and address each item as it comes up in a timely and professional manner is draining. Everyone I am sure knows the experience of responding to emails and knows how long that can take. For me as a video editor, I also get to sift through all the video footage that I film and that can take a lot of consistent and focused time. There was one point, I remember when my office was in the same room I sleep. I would wake up and there was my computer. I’d make some coffee and get to work. That was not very healthy and makes me very grateful to have an office to work in.
Creating separate spaces for work was an important transition. Moving my office to a separate room, a separate building was a change in the right direction. That move in the right direction is a constant pursuit. My balance has developed mostly from the need for it when I didn’t balance. It’s easy to get sidetracked, however, what is important is having an overall healthier lifestyle. I value my health and am willing to take steps to support it. This is an everyday affair. When I’ve been working too much, I take time to get outside, do something I enjoy or relax. Stress is a real thing and the body likes to cling to it. I have found it very important to find balance and make it part of my every day, my lifestyle.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a producer of video content, a director, videographer, drone pilot, scuba divemaster. You can see me as a freelancer and an entrepreneur. I can offer creative, copywriting, and technical support for any multi-media project. My focus is on videography, video editing, and lighting. Hire me to produce excellent, high-quality videos or collaborate on creative media projects!
What sets you apart?
The thing that sets me apart from others is my work ethic. My mom taught me that you keep your commitments. I do what I say I am going to do. That’s important in life. Follow through and keep promises.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Denver, there are so many great restaurants to dine at. A few of my favorites are Tables, Tru Foods, and Snooze. For a beer, we’d head to RiNo and check out one of the new or veteran Breweries in the area. I will say I like Euclid Hall for its delicious food, long beer menu, and it serves food till 12am. If it’s summertime, let’s go boating in Fort Collins or camping in Ouray. If it’s winter, obviously let’s hit up the slopes. No matter what they say, I really enjoy Keystone for its versatility and great conditions on good days. Then, let’s stop at a hot spring! Two of my favorites are Strawberry Park in Steamboat, or for a recovery soak at SunWater Spa in Manitou. Check out the swing at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park and the Great Sand Dunes National Park!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my college professor, Kevin Everson. He was a boss. He was an eclectic and amazing teacher of Cinematographer, ‘in the gutter’ we would say. We filmed & edited on 16mm film and he was a fan of John Waters. He taught me about the concept of form in visual art and I continue to explore my relationship to it in my work.
