We had the good fortune of connecting with Zachary Salter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zachary, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am being constantly being inspired by the people I’ve surrounded myself with. They are always challenging my creativity and pushing me in ways I could never accomplish if I was alone in this journey, and I am truly grateful for all of them. I’m a big believer in how your environment can affect your creativity and your mental health. When you surround yourself with people who don’t have any ambitions, not working towards anything or just don’t want to enjoy life to the fullest, it takes an effect on you as well. My biggest tip is finding people with the same ambitions as you and just good people. You’ll be surprised how much it changes you for the better.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an adventure photographer and videographer based in Seattle, Wa. I’ve always been proud of my ability to see the smallest details wherever I go but not let them distract me from the bigger picture. I’ve been doing freelance for about a year and a half now and couldn’t be happier with the progress I’ve made so far. It wasn’t easy though. I started in real estate photo/video and that’s how I learned the basics of video editing and photo manipulation. I quickly grew bored of it though and started reaching out to brands to start building my portfolio. I would email hundreds of companies a day and hope that one would reach back out. I finally would start getting one or two a few weeks and it spiraled from there. The thing I always tell people is to stay consistent and don’t give up when they get rejected. All it takes is one email, one DM, one conversation, to change your life. For my brand personally, I want the world to know I live by these words; “A Story By The People Who Wander”. Those words will always be the core of myself and my brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are limitless places in Washington to go for sure! I’m a big nature guy, so we would definitely hit all of my favorite spots. Mt. Rainier is one of my favorite national parks, so we would for sure spend some time hiking the paradise trails, the reflection lake, and the Freemont watchtower. We would end a few nights eating at Top Gun, our favorite local bar, They have an amazing Bacon burger I always get. We would then hit the coast in Olympic national park, arguably the most diverse national park. We would spend a few nights with my friend Cam who lives in Port Angelos right on the water. We’d hit Storm King for its stunning views over Lake Crescent, Sol Duc Falls for its stunning waterfalls, and La Push for its crazy rock formations in the water and amazing sunsets.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out all the people from Camp Create. From our first meeting in Washington back in 2020, to here now in 2022, they’ve become some of my closest friends, and couldn’t have done anything without the support from all of them. Mason, Vee, Cam, Drake, Heather, Ian, Jess, Hayden, Jeffrey, Jason, Matthew, and Luke, Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
