We had the good fortune of connecting with Zack Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zack, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When it comes to the success of House of Vibes: Coffee + Curiosity, we wouldn’t be here without the collaboration of our close-knit community of family and friends. It’s no joke when I say it took a VILLAGE to open this coffee shop — I’ve partnered with my brother’s roasting house in the Smoky Mountains to supply our coffee, we sell several of our friend’s unique arts and crafts to decorate and bring the vibe to house of vibes, and sometimes I even ask our regular customers with specialized skills to help with projects around the shop. When you walk through our doors, it’s easy to see that House of Vibes is a reflection of the collective community we have here in Summit County, and from regions far and wide. I want my coffee shop to feel like a space for everyone to come as they are, and promote their radical individuality, and with the help of the community, we’ve done just that.

What should our readers know about your business?
House of Vibes is the brain child of Joe Pepe and myself. We’ve both lived and worked in Summit County for nearly a decade and with our eccentric and eclectic personalities combined… we realized something was missing in our community. A dynamic place to share with others that promotes individuality, the arts, nature and curiosities. All while having coffee, conversation, and southern style biscuits. Sometimes, in our town, it feels like it’s hard to get away from the snow-centric culture thats so very prevalent here (for a good reason).

For a breath of fresh air, we decided to create a space for the the community and for ourselves, that transports you to another dimension and world. Thus began, House of Vibes: Coffee + Curiosities. In our shop you can find anything from house plants, crystals, tarot decks, potion bottles, animal skulls, metaphysical books, and even a vintage and still functioning hair drying chair… although we haven’t mastered perms yet. Along with our collection of finds, we feature local baked goods, house made simple syrups, and buttermilk biscuits that’ll make your mamaw blush. Come see us!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For visitors to our neighborhood of Silverthorne/Dillon

Lodging: The PAD is a super hip new hostel located right down the street from us. Dont be fooled by the term hostel, this place is LUX. You have your choice of private micro rooms, bunk style lodging, or hotel style rooms with your own private bathroom. Not to mention, their calendar is always popping with fun activities and events ranging from yoga, ecstatic dance, creator markets, and live music in the lobby. Make sure to grab one of the craft cocktails from A-Bar in the lobby and then relax in the upstairs hot tub.

Happy Hour: One of my favorite new spots for golden hour cocktails is Bistro North in Dillon. Their extensive martini menu, curated by top-notch mixologist, will well satisfy the palette of even the pickiest drinkers. The happy hour there is BOGO for martinis and appetizers. Check out the Scooters Dark Side — a strawberry balsamic and basil martini, and don’t miss out on the calamari! nom nom nom

Live Music: Don’t tell the locals i told you, but Dillon Amphitheater might just be Colorado’s best kept secret when it comes to a music venue. Overlooking Lake Dillon, you’ll find world class music here with the sun setting right behind the stage. Red Rocks is cool, but Dillon Ampitheater is cooler.

10 mile music hall in Frisco always has stellar events and music as well…and you might catch me working coat check over there!

Coffee and hangout: House Of Vibes, DUH.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s quite a few people that deserve some recognition when it comes to helping House of Vibes thrive. As I mentioned above, the success of House of Vibes is due to the community that came together to help create the vision in the present, but past experiences and people have played an equally large role as well.

First i’d like to give a big ‘ol shoutout to my parents. They’ve always supported me in my goals, whether they be realistic or outlandish. They have always accepted me for being radically myself, and allowed me to explore things that probably push their boundaries– and for that I consider myself very lucky. From a young age they instilled in me an extremely hard work ethic, encouraging me to have jobs and make my own money…even when i was probably too young according to the labor department standards. Without my upbringing, I would not have the strong foundation on which i stand.

I also would not have been able to bring House of Vibes to fruition without the help of my business partners, Joe Pepe & Nick Brown. Joe is a nonstop source of encouragement for growth and expansion, the voice of reason when times get tough to keep going and keep creating…the sky is the limit with this guy. Nick always seen potential in people and has unwavering trust when it comes to helping others create new ventures and creating the best version of themselves. I’ve hit the jackpot when it comes down to my business partners.
