We had the good fortune of connecting with Philip Kranefuss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Philip, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Homie’s mission is to make homeownership easy, affordable, and accessible for all. In combining technology and streamlining the real estate process via our one-stop-shop suite of real estate services, we are making navigating the market—and buying and selling a home—easier. Homie has also created efficiencies that drive costs down and we pass down those savings to the consumer. With Homie’s low-commission fee structure, we’ve helped home buyers and sellers save millions of dollars and keep more of their hard-earned equity.
Locally here in Denver, we are focused on working with local community groups and not-for-profits to address affordability and accessibility issues. This year, we partnered with the Colorado Rockies and Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver. We donated $100 for every Homie Homerun hit throughout the 2021 baseball season. This amounted to a $20,000 donation to Habitat of Metro Denver to help them continue to provide life-changing housing programs that serve families in the Denver area. We also had a really fun team build day earlier in the year to help build a home for a local family!
We’re making an impact, but we are just scratching the surface. We have big plans to dive deeper here and help the community in as many ways as we can. Watch this space!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career path has been non-traditional. From studying history in college with plans to become a history professor, to finding myself in the highest rungs of professional motorsports, to founding a career in real estate where I built successful businesses and high performing teams.
I think my well-rounded background, varied life experiences and insatiable curiosity have given me the tools to forge a successful career path, and my drive and strong sense of motivation have pushed me through that path.
It was not easy. I think what sets me apart is grit, tenacity, and the ability to take a hit and keep coming. There were so many setbacks, challenges, and obstacles and if I wanted to get anywhere on my entrepreneurial journey, I simply had to overcome.
In fact, so much of who I am today is because I did not succeed at the level I wanted in professional racing – I felt like I left a lot on the table and didn’t capitalize on the opportunities. When I left motorsports in the mid-2000’s, it was clear the calculus that I was applying to life was not getting me the results I wanted, and I had a string of failures and non-successes to show for it. Moving to Colorado was a chance to start from scratch, and provided the opportunity for me to dial-in better life practices to get better results.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them up to the Mountains west of Denver. The skiing is amazing and the mountain towns have so much to offer. We would plan for a weekend of skiing, hitting all the great restaurants and foods to try, probably roll in a spa treatment and perhaps partake in a fun event like a moonlight horse-drawn sleigh ride. At the same time, while all those extra add-ons sound fun, just spending time with friends and enjoying the skiing and time together is more than sufficient.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to thank my parents first and foremost, for instilling solid values, accountability and a strong work ethic. In particular, I learned key lessons about leadership and how to drive to successful outcomes.
In addition, while I’ve read many business books, I’ve found reading history and also (my favorite for some time) listening to history podcasts. I love picking up on the trends, dynamics and lessons from those that went before us, and seeing those patterns in how they achieved their success and how that can be applied to my life and efforts.
