We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Sato and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Like a lot of entrepreneurs, I started the business I wish had been available when I was just starting out. When I left corporate life and started my first business, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I could have used someone to guide me through the ins and outs of business, someone to help me lay proper business foundations and really dig into who I was trying to serve and what I wanted to offer.

In the early stages of my business, I operated without a real strategy and a lot of imposter syndrome. I knew I needed a mentor, but I had no idea where to find one. This was back in the day when coaching really wasn’t a thing.

Fast forward 8 years and a lot of hard lessons learned, Jessica Sato Consulting was born with the goal of helping new entrepreneurs build profitable businesses with strong foundations and predictable profits without fancy technology, expensive ads, or the hustle and grind. We use tried and true business practices to help business owners create an actionable strategy, streamlined systems, and an aligned and authentic marketing strategy.

There’s a lot of misinformation and bad business practices being promoted in the online marketing space. We want to be a safe space for business owners to come as they are, cut through the clutter, and build businesses with impact.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My personal business journey hasn’t been easy or straightforward. I started without a mentor and had no clue what I was doing. And while I was successful in those early years, I knew I could create something different, bigger, and better. I’ve gone through economic downturns, a pandemic, a failed business partnership, and periods where I wondered where the heck the money was going to come from… but at the core, I knew I would be successful and I believed in what I was trying to create. I knew women business owners needed a safe space to learn, build, and grow.

As I reflect on what has helped me be successful, it comes down to deep belief in and clear vision for where I wanted to go, the personal drive to see it through – even on the hard days, a personal board of directors that really challenged and supported me, and a supportive family and network of amazing people that I knew had my back.

Over the last few years, I’ve seen countless women make the leap from corporate or professional careers to build purpose-driven businesses. I’m incredibly proud of the safe and inclusive space I’ve created for these women as they have laid down business foundations, made their first five and six figures, and changed lives in truly inspiring ways.

Business building is tough. There are no shortcuts or easy answers. Being successful comes down to having a strong vision, being willing to take risks and bear the weight of personal responsibility, and to ask for help. When you partner with us at JSC, you get a team of people who are honest, passionate about your success, and the biggest cheerleaders you’ll ever meet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being outside, so any itinerary would include a trek into the mountains, and there’s no better place than Rocky Mountain National Park. I’d grab my camping gear and my beloved camp kitchen and get out into the wilderness. The glacial lakes and vistas are breathtaking.

Then we’d pop over to Mount Princeton Hot Springs for a soak in the river and bite to eat in Salida. There are loads of fun restaurants, and again, the views are unbeatable.

A stop over in Colorado Springs to Garden of the Gardens and the Olympic Museum, and then back to Morrison for some live music at Red Rocks and Little Man’s ice cream in Denver will round out the trip!

There’s no shortage of activities to see and do in Colorado. I can’t imagine a better place to live.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
How many people can I mention here? In all seriousness, I wouldn’t have made this journey without a handful of people.

First, my husband, Jeremy, and my teens, Nathan and Lily, have been incredible. They’ve believed in me from the beginning. They’re my fiercest protectors and my biggest supporters.

The women of Polka Dot Powerhouse and The Dames have been instrumental in helping me grow my business. They’ve poured into me on a personal and professional level, and I’m immensely grateful.

There have been others – Vanessa, Dana, Stacy, and Erin – along the way who’ve challenged me, pushed me, and provided a safe space for me to grow and explore. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

I could go on and on, but this is a great start!
