We had the good fortune of connecting with Lennart Homann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lennart, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Simply put, I have always explored the arts. Everything from photography, painting, glass blowing, woodworking, graphic design, music production, and mixed – media. Whether it was a form of escape as a child or a way to express to the world how I feel and who I am, being a creative is and has always been the one thing that truly makes me feel like myself. Transitioning this into a career path was nothing more than an obvious next step for me. Speaking for myself, although being creative feels the most natural, there is a certain level of obsession that comes with creating art. If one isn’t willing to drop everything and completely pour themselves into their art, philosophically speaking, is it still art? I feel as if creatives often bring light to this, we know very well that pursuing a path in a creative field will be the furthest thing from easy and at times we may often reevaluate why it is we have chosen this path. And yet, the same answer seems to surface, we find it impossible to have it any other way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always made it a point to stay as true to my visions as possible without compromising in order to please others. But, this unfortunately is easier said than done. In practice I think we all hyper fantasize and over analyze our own work as some grand masterpiece, but when it comes time to bring those ideas to fruition we tend to stall. There are many avenues in addressing this issue but in general I think a lot can be said for learning to not take yourself so seriously. No one creates there entire life’s work or portfolio over night, it is something that has to be built and constructed over time. To me, this is what keeps me pushing for more, the very catalyst for improvement. The thing that excites me the most is just imagining what I could be capable of if I keep progressing my skills. I don’t look at my current work and think to myself “huh? I think I’ve leaned it all…. there really isn’t anything else for me to do.” I reflect on how far I’ve come to be able to achieve this current form of art and plant the seeds for growth to allow myself to be open to change and progression. I think this is the only reason I’m still able to pursue my passion. By thinking of your dreams as a life long goal rather than something that is obtainable in the short term you pave the way for a fruitful career. Certainly I have not gotten to where I am today without obstacles. Challenges play a very crucial role in the path to your dream goals. It’s as if life sets us checkpoints along our journey in order to check in on us to see if we are still on the right path. Even as if to purposefully have us reflect on why it is we started this journey in the first place and to compare our original intentions with where we currently are now. I think all too often when faced with adversity, we tend to panic and desperately search for immediate solutions. As mentioned earlier, your “life’s work” isn’t an overnight achievement. I think our struggles and challenges should be handled the same way. When a new challenge arises, pause, sit on it, and allow yourself time to fully navigate the situation. When you are ready, move on. The obstacle itself isn’t compromising your work, but your reaction to it might. To me, this is why I’ve chosen landscape and nature photography. As seen in the natural processes that have sculpted, shaped, and created our earth, things only come with time. Being able to explore these incredible places has given me the insight that although your effort may feel minuscule, with patience and consistency your action can build something massive just as the elements have shaped our planet.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough one! I’m not one to often revisit the same place over and over. Instead I enjoy finding something new and special each time, which Colorado has plenty to offer. One of the many great things about Colorado is our emphasis on supporting small and local businesses which is exactly where I would start. From our incredible craft brewing scene, to restaurants, music venues, museums, art galleries, and more, all you need to do is be open to exploring our beautiful cities and let the experiences shape themselves. If I had to give some recommendations I would highly recommend Lariat Lodge Brewing for some delicious brewed in-house craft beers, Abrusci’s Fire & Vine for a classy dinner with wine, and The Black Box if you enjoy electronic music. Not only is the city life entertaining, but with a very short scenic drive you can quickly find yourself exploring some incredible nature destinations. Anything with in the Front Range is a good time and if your are feeling extra adventurous, a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park never disappoints. Colorado is a state of many opportunities, and if you allow yourself to be open to it’s possibilities, you will surely never have a bad time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think we can all identify the important role that people play in our lives. At its core, the most fundamentally human actions are the relationships and encounters we have with one another. Whether it be a negative encounter or a positive one, we are all students to life and the lessons it offers us. I personally choose to view each and every one of these experiences as a building block to my foundation. I truly don’t think i’d be where I am today without the incredible support of my mother. Having lost my father in my early teens, she has always been a strong and present figure in my life. From a very young age she made it a mission to instill and support my curiosity, imagination, and the very real belief that indeed, anything is possible. Surely, as most mothers do, she made it very clear to have realistic understandings and expectations of how the world works. I think the most impressive part of her parenting was being able to swallow her “pride” and allow for my imagination to run wild without shutting it down. Having such an open and explorative mind, alternatively, I have so much to thank for all the amazing artists and mentors who we’re are so open to sharing the knowledge they have acquired. Without the support of the creative community as a whole, I think it would be hard for any of us to be where we are today.
