Meet Dr. Andersen, ND, LMT; Dr. Marisa Soski, ND, MS, FABNO | Naturopathic Doctors

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Andersen, ND, LMT; Dr. Marisa Soski, ND, MS, FABNO and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Andersen, ND, LMT; Dr. Marisa Soski, ND, MS, FABNO, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Individually we both had the dream of one day opening a multidisciplinary wellness center. When we met, these dreams organically melded and planning began on opening the clinic we have today. We knew that we wouldn’t be able to start at the capacity or facility we one day dreamed of providing, but we have a plan with intention set on expanding until our dreams turn into reality. Our goal is to create a space that promotes healing on all levels – body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Throughout our lives we have collected many techniques that allow people to achieve this type of deep healing, and these practices have helped shape the wellness lifestyle and environment we present today.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our pride and joy is Matrix Wellness, a premier Naturopathic Clinic in Boulder, CO helping patients rediscover themselves and reimagine health. Our practice is rooted in the Naturopathic philosophy of Vitalism, which aims to support the innate healing propensity of the body. We view a patient’s symptoms as signs that the body is attempting to restore balance, or return to a state of health by correcting the underlying cause. This is in contrast to the more Mechanistic approach adopted by conventional medicine, and even many Naturopaths, which considers symptoms to be the disease itself. Therefore, treatment approaches from these two vantage points are quite different. Where we aim to support the body in its efforts to restore health naturally, conventional medicine suppresses symptoms in their attempt to stop the progression of disease. We believe that whole health cannot exist where the underlying cause of disease has been ignored and left unaddressed. This philosophical difference is what sets our approach apart from mainstream medical practitioners, and further, helps our patients achieve true healing on all levels – body, mind, and spirit.

We knew that we wouldn’t be able to start at the capacity or facility we one day dreamed of providing, but we have a plan with intention set on expanding until our dreams turn into reality. Throughout our lives we have collected many techniques that allow people to achieve this type of deep healing, and these practices have helped shape the holistic lifestyle and environment we present today. We are extremely proud and excited of the wellness center we have created. We offer naturopathic medicine, nutritional counseling, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, yoga, and community events! This is not the end of the dream and we will one day have additional offerings of body work, more extensive mental health support, breathwork classes, sound healing, acupuncture, art therapy, a wider variety of therapeutic spa services, and more!
Opening a clinic in the middle of a pandemic has been no easy feat! There have been many challenges and lessons learned along the way. The most important lesson we’ve learned is to trust the universe and our intuition. We continue to remind each other that everything happens for a reason, although it may be difficult to see and accept in the moment. Every time we find ourselves worrying about how things are going we always come back to ground in this lesson. We’ve found when you trust in “what you put in is what you get out”, and you direct all of your dreams, ideals, and efforts into that cause, you’ll find the results you receive are far greater than you could have ever imagined!
We have also learned that taking risks is inseparable from starting your own business. Both of us have come to understand that if your decisions are coming from a place of authenticity and awareness, taking risks are an important part of growth and success. As such, risk taking has been central to our lives and careers in multiple ways. First, we picked a profession and career that is counterculture to mainstream medicine. Second, we put all of our eggs in one basket by starting our own business. Finally, we moved to a city where neither of us were raised and essentially started a life and business together from scratch. All of these decisions have required taking risks in their own right, and while each one has been a crucial step in creating the incredible life we live today we wouldn’t have it any other way!
In conclusion, Matrix Wellness is the culmination of our belief in Natural Law and the Healing Power of Nature, our hope for humanity and being the change we want to see in the world, and our intention to nourish the grassroots movement towards a healthier community and planet.
… Thank you for coming to our TED Talk 😉
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you have a week to explore Colorado there are countless gems to take in and explore. We have listed some of our favorites below. First head to Boulder and grab a delicious lunch at Thrive. Other great Boulder restaurants include Folsom Thai, AOI Sushi, Dragonfly Noodle, and Avanti food & beverage. To fill your time between eating check out the Pearl Street Mall or one of Boulder’s many hikes through the foothills of the Rockies. Next head to Breckenridge for a true mountain experience. If you want to take the scenic route, drive from Boulder to Nederland to catch part of Peak to Peak Highway, one of the most beautiful drives in the country. A stop at Crosscut Pizzeria and Tap House in Nederland for lunch won’t leave you disappointed. There are also some amazing places to eat in the Frisco/Breckenridge area! You have to try Peak of Asia in Breckenridge for some “home-cooked” Vietnamese food and the best pho in Colorado, period. If you want to splurge, check out Relish. Pure Food Kitchen in Frisco is also an amazing choice for your organic everything lunch or dinner! If hiking is your thing, and it’s between May & September, take a stroll up Spruce Creek Trail just outside Breckenridge to catch a series of beautiful lakes along the path. If you make it out during the winter months, jump on some skis or a snowboard and visit any one of the breathtaking resorts throughout Summit county. For your last couple days in our beautiful state, head to Denver. If you can, catch a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater on your way into town, there are very few venues in the world that can match this location! In Denver, catch dinner at Sushi Den for an unforgettable meal. Other incredible places to eat include Root Down, Linger, El Five, and Safta. Spend your days walking around the 16th Street Mall, checking out the unique shops at Broadway’s Antique Row, or exploring the arts district in RiNo. If you’re into the type of experience that you won’t quite be able to explain, and definitely something you have never experienced before, check out Meow Wolf at Convergence Station. However, if you prefer more outdoorsy activities, you have to check out the Denver REI flagship store, they even have a rock climbing wall!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to send a shoutout to our amazing Matrix Syngery Coordinator, Danielle. She has been with us since the beginning and so much of our success is in large part due to her incredible support and contributions to our creations.
