We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Seymour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
When Trista and I first took over, formally, as the new owners of the company she was working for a different company, in a different industry – with no intention of coming to work Postmodern as an employee. It’s easy to say that the single most important decision we made after becoming owners, was to bring her on as an employee. She’s the best employee she and I ever hired!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Postmodern is the production company by category, but we’re really a company of creative problem solvers. We use scriptwriting and cameras and audio design and motion graphics to solve company and brand communication challenges. Those are the tools that build the solutions for our clients. We turned 30 this year. That is something that makes us very proud. It’s hard for any small business to keep things working and successful and relevant for that long – but in our industry it’s particularly hard to do. So, we’re very proud of that and very grateful for all that keeps us going.

Nothing about starting or running a small business comes easy. It’s a challenge every day in different ways. Recognizing that challenges come and vary and that how you address them and learn from them is a reward of business ownership is not an easy pill to swallow starting out. We have learned so much from our successes and failures – it never ends. I think the biggest thing we’ve learned is that investing in the development of employees; their development and growth – is essentially to the success of the company.

Brand relevancy is a daily challenge and a daily delight. We try to breath the creative ethos of Postmodernism into our everyday work and not rest on the laurels of our legacy. We are producing content today for the viewers of tomorrow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The food and culture of Denver is exploding with flavor and texture! It’s awesome. There is so much get into and experience now in this city – it’s wonderfully overwhelming and inspiring. This is my hit list when someone new comes to visit us. Food: Barcelona, Lucina, Hop Alley, Sushi-Rama, Root Down, Stueben’s. Experience: Wonderbound, Meow Wolf, Stanley Marketplace, Red Rocks, Museum of Contemporary Art, SIE film center.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our success thus far can’t be attributed to any one person. Our success is absolutely due to having such an awesome team/ family/community of collaborators. They all make the magic happen, we’re just in a position to bring them all together. We really believe in the company of the company. That is to say; being together with sharp, creative, imaginative, capable people is the whole reason why we have a company and why the end product is as good as it is,
