We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Austin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For the longest time, I knew I wanted to start my own creative business. I started playing with cameras all the way back to when I was 8 years old. Being able to capture and tell stories that last forever was a concept I fell in love with and have constantly explored. There for awhile I got stuck in working a job that paid my bills but ultimately made me extremely unhappy. I knew that in order for me to get the most out of my life, I had to escape the corporate world and dive head first into being a creative entrepreneur. The risk was high but it’s risky wasting your life too isn’t is?
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a creative person in todays world isn’t any easier than any other point in time. While technology has advanced and continues to help us creatives, the creative category continues to become more and more saturated. Becoming set apart is increasingly difficult. For me, my vision is to always remain real and true. In a world of faked content and non stop ads/sellouts, I feel a little truth and transparency goes a long way. While it may never be the most popular fast growing viral thing, I feel thats what stands the test of time. Being Real. Whatever it is I create, a video, photo or written article. Having that sense of true clarity in my work connects with the right people more. I’d rather have a significant impact on 1 or 2 people who need it, than making a short impression on millions of people wasting time scrolling. If I stay true to that blueprint, maybe I can help bring that style of creating back piece by piece. Everyones so busy all the time for no reason. Let’s slow down and enjoy some realness in our lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love mediterranean food. The best spots are the ones hidden in gas stations. They’re the farthest thing from fancy but the food is 5 stars. Sports bars are my favorite spot to go grab drinks, especially during Football season. sitting down with drinks and appetizers while cheering on your team? No better night out. Let’s hit downtown for some photos too. Street photography is so diverse you could take photos all night and not cover everything. Such a great way to not only see the city and connect with whoever your with but an easy way to get your steps in! Speaking of which cant forget the gym. A lot of the time one of my favorite ways to re-connect with people is at the gym. Don’t workout regularly? Too bad, let’s get a session in. Taking care of ones body is excellent for not only physical fitness but mental as well. Being mentally fit lets you enjoy many other aspects of life so why not take time out of your day and get active?
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family is the key to any individuals success. Whether thats your actual related family, or a family of close friends and mentors. Surrounding yourself with individuals who will support you no matter your situation is key. My Mother was that individual for me. Constantly affirming me in my projects (even the bad ones when I first started) and being there for me when things looked grim. My Mom will always be my hero and I hope that one day I get to repay her for all she’s done for me. Don’t ever let go of family or let your pride get in the way of keeping those who matter most near and dear. If everyone valued and gave their family the deserved time, this world would be that much brighter.
