We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicky Eggert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicky, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is something that I place an immense amount of importance on. As an early career professional my balance has changed from working during college and constantly having to cram time to work, study, and have a social life to now balancing my career as a marketer with my social media business and modeling.

Ironically, my work life balance has improved since graduating and I have managed to make more time for me. Work wise I think it is most important to ensure you’re in a career where you are working to live not living to work. If I ever find myself with no time to dedicate to my personal passions then I know I know I’m in the wrong role.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Finding my voice on social media was a struggle. It’s incredibly difficult to decide which parts of you you want to share online. I went from a travel blog to creative photography, to now curly hair care and fashion. I am incredibly proud that although i’ve only been in the social media biz for two years I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with huge brands including CurlSmith, Umberto Gianni, Color Wow Hair, and more!

The biggest challenge that ANYONE starting out in social will have to overcome is STARTING. If you’re reading this and you have a dream of being a Youtuber, Tiktoker etc.. my biggest is advice is start and start soon! The sooner you realize that the “right time” doesn’t exist the better! I stalled for years and when I finally started you realize that there is so much to learn and it’s NOT just taking and posting pretty pictures.

Second biggest thing I recommend if finding a mentor and a community within whatever social media space you are in and dedicate time to supporting others! After all it’s called SOCIAL media, you won’t grow on your own. I overcame this myself by taking time to actually meet people and support them in their journey as well. I am still growing and early in my social career but I hope this can help one of you!

As for my brand, my goal is to encourage and empower my audience to be their authentic selves! So many people feel that their curly hair is ugly but I’m here to show you how to properly care for it so you can thrive as your authentic natural self! My brand is all about self confidence and being comfortable in your own skin (hence the reason I wear very little makeup in my photos and stories too)

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is an easy one because I recently had a friend come visit! Something you might not expect from me is I actually LOVE outdoor adventure sports so my itinerary is a little more out there!

City Recs:

For Breakfast: Snooze A.M, Denver Biscuit Company, The three little griddles

Hike: Chautauqua Park, Deer Creek Canyon, Red Rocks

Pit stop for a snack: Denver Central Market (Izzio Bakery)

Lunch/Dinner: Vinh Xong Bakery for some banh mi, Bay Leaf for Indian, Avanti for alot of options

As for some adventure sports I’d 100% recommend rafting in Idaho Springs! Check out AVA or Liquid Descent
I’d also recommend going ziplining which you can also do with AVA.

If it’s winter hit up Loveland for a cheaper and less crowded mountain!

Going out? I LOVE dancing so the Grizzly Rose is a must and Vinyl has latino nights on Fridays!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my boyfriend Gunnar Morgan and my parents! Marketing wise I wouldn’t have landed this kind of role if not for my parents helping me make it through college. I’m an alum of UT Austin and I wouldn’t have graduated if not for their support.

Social media wise I need to give a special shoutout to my wonderful and supportive boyfriend for helping me have the courage to get started in the social media biz and for being my personal photographer for a few years now. The images we have created together are what has helped build my brand and ultimately helped me succeed.
