Meet Romario Romain | Owner and Trainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Romario Romain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Romario, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I made was leaving a steady 9-5 in a field I was very interested in, with a sure monthly income, 401k, benefits, etc after graduating college to pursue a passion in dogs. Owning a business was never a desire of mine and there I was buying into an independently owned franchise. The decision then became 10 times harder when we opened the business in another city before we targeted Denver. I had to leave my wife and home to get the business up and running with was an even more challenging to over come.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Dog Wizard is a balanced dog training company that uses obedience as a gateway to help dogs make better decisions. We are proud of being able to help owners see the best in their dogs and achieve their goals with their companions. It was not an easy journey to get to this level of business in a one year period. We strived to treat all our clients dogs as they were our own with the hope of understanding their situation and working them to the highest standard possible. As all new businesses, keeping your cash flowing in the early stages is the biggest challenge. I think we began crossing that bridge by building our reputation in the city and also seeking out business advice from other owners, entrepreneurs and coaches to guide and help keep uson the path of quality and growth. Some of the lesson we have learned along the way is that your product or skills are only as good as your belief in them but at the same time you need to versatile because your system may not work for every given circumstance, I would like the world know that dog training is an art as much as it is a science. Anyone can teach your dog a trick but the trainer that is going modify behavior in a fair way must be able to understand the animal. Our goal is help owners through their dog journey, whether it be good or bad. Their is no such thing as a too well trained dog.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them on a hike along the Poudre River. It is one of the most gorgeous but easily accessible treasures of the front range. We would start our week in Fort Collins for one of their many events including a few brewer stops. Definitely hike Helwitt’s Gulch, Grey rock and lake Isabel. For food, Music City Hot chicken is a must as well as a couple other local favorites in Denver. Lastly we will end the week according to the time of year at an event at Red Rocks Amphitheater.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family in Columbus IN for supporting the dream and helping us get situated. My wife Alex for being so understanding and also supportive of the process. Lastly, my dogs Saint and Mo for teaching me so much over the years!
