We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Winter and Liliana Resendiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie and Liliana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Liliana has been a fitness instructor for over a decade. They met when Katie came to one of Liliana’s backyard Zumba classes during the pandemic. They became fast friends and connected so well, they decided to launch Ignition Dance Fitness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We express our love and passion for joyful movement through dance fitness. By creating our own choregraphies for our classes, we strive to bring routines to our students at all fitness levels to give them an hour to feel the music and leave their worries at home. Our welcoming, inclusive environment sets up apart from other fitness classes in the industry because we really care about our people and see them as more than just our students. The most challenging part of doing dance fitness as an independent instructor, vs. through a gym, is handling all of the marketing and logistics as well as running the class – we are constantly thinking about our classes and how to make them better and bringing fresh music and routines to our students.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Longmont has a ton of really awesome restaurants! Some of our favorites are Swaylo’s, a Tiki bar themed restaurant in South Longmont, and The Roost, in downtown Longmont. We also have a bunch of great Sushi restaurants, including our favorite, Sushi Box. Longmont also has a bunch of really delicious Mexican restaurants – we love Cyclhops.

The Brewhop Trolley is a great way to see a bunch of local breweries, distilleries, and cideries in town – we highly recommend this for visitors!

We love to go to Mcintosh Lake and walk/jog around the lake – it is a beautiful 3 mile loop with great views of the mountains. You can also kayak and paddleboard there and enjoy the gorgeous views. If you want to do more of a hike, Rabbit Mountain is not far from Longmont and gives you great views of the Flatirons without having to drive to Boulder.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Katie – I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband Kevin for encouraging me to take time for myself which led me to discover my love for dance fitness. He is always happy to take care of our kids so I can go to classes or work on choreos for our class.

Liliana – I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband David for always being supportive and encouraging throughout our relationship with all of my interests including my career as fitness instructor. He always pushes me to pursue my passions and I am extremely grateful for his support.
