We had the good fortune of connecting with Mario Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mario, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I have always thought murals can have a very big social impact on the community, as artwork brings color and vibrance to otherwise dreary lifeless walls. Us muralists can create a backdrop for things such as family photo ops, graduation pictures, or bring more customers into a local business. I have also been involved in a mural that was created to deter graffiti in a public space which allowed people to enjoy the area without distraction.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been interested in art since a young age, mainly doing pencil drawings and acrylic paintings. Then in 2017 I completed my first large scale public mural and created an art page on Facebook & Instagram shortly after that. Before you know it I was being commissioned for all types of art including the city of Colorado Springs and even had to travel for a couple jobs. It took a lot of time but I feel like social media was a big part of my creative journey as that was the tool I used to connect to people. When I am not creating for others, I like to create works of art with optical illusions & hidden images. I feel like that is what sets me apart from other artists as it may take a person several times viewing my work before they have that “ah ha” moment and see something they did not initially see.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m definitely an outdoors type of person, so I’d probably include lots of trips out in nature. There’s always the typical tourist attractions like Garden of the Gods or maybe the zoo. I also might do a night on the town and hit up a few spots in the downtown area. Since I’m obviously the artsy type, I’d probably take a cruise to Manitou and walk around the shops.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to my family & friends, who have always supported my artistic endeavors over the years. Whether it’s visiting me on site while I’m painting a mural, sharing or commenting on a social media post, or stopping by one of my art shows, I always feel the love from them. Their support never goes unnoticed and keeps me going.
