Meet Matea Strong | Licensed Massage Therapist-Owner of The Strong Touch

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matea Strong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matea, what do you attribute your success to?
To me, the most important part of my business is my clients. I believe why I’ve been so successful is the relationships I’ve built and being able to support them on their health journey. My brand represents who I am; honest, trustworthy, and going above and beyond for the people in my life. When a client comes to me, they know I’ll always advise and do what’s best for them. Building my business with that mindset is how I’ve gained the trust of my community and am ever grateful to have done so.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Many massage studios can be cookie cutter, getting a basic massage that isn’t really addressing your needs. When it comes to The Strong Touch, we start with a conversation about areas of concern and I use my intuition throughout to guide the session to a place of relief. Through an anatomy focus, I work with the body to ease muscle tension and knots, while providing education on how to continue the healing past the session. My priority is getting results, easing my clients’ pain, and leaving them better than when they walked in.
Before massage, I worked in the service industry for over 10 years. I learned how to connect with people and the skills to build something of my own. I didn’t feel like I was fulfilling my potential being in that industry though. I knew there was more I could do to actually help the world. After dealing with an injury, massage therapy called to me and I enrolled in school within the week. It was a difficult, intensive program that helped me grow so much personally. When I graduated, it was nerve wracking to think of being an entrepreneur and providing for myself. Ultimately, the Source Health Center helped me take the next step, pursuing my own practice and pushed me to take risks I wouldn’t have without their support.
Having your own business is like being on a teeter totter, wondering if the next risk will work out or not. What I’ve learned is that there is no good or bad, but that everything is a new lesson learned. Even with all the pressure to succeed and how scary it can be to be on your own, it is very rewarding and worth every hardship. Lean on your community and trust your gut. It will lead you to where you need to go!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Of course, on the Front Range, we would head up to Lyons and Estes. The downtown shops in both towns are adorable, the views unmatched, and Rocky Mountain National Park is a must. Antonio’s Pizza in Estes is some of the best in the state and I love supporting a small business owner.
Nederland would be another day visit to do some of my favorite hiking in the Indian Peaks. We might need to stop at Knotted Root, a great brewery up there.
Since Boulder area is my forte, we’d pop into a yoga class at my favorite studio, Radiance Power Yoga. After, we could relax in North Boulder Park and enjoy the views. There’d be more hiking on any of the trails on the gorgeous Flatirons. Then for an after hike treat, I’d take them to my home turf of Southern Sun Brewery, where I worked for 5 1/2 years. The beer, food, and the people make them a landmark of Boulder.
Then we’d need a night out on the town in Denver. First dinner at Uncle, where I’ve had the most delicious ramen and after, we’d head over for fun at Happy Camper. The drinks and atmosphere always are some of the best in Denver. If we really wanted to have a late night, we’d head to Charlie’s for dancing with the best.
We’d wrap up the trip by heading to Idaho Springs and visiting the caves there to soak and relax!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have and continue to support me on this journey. Thank you so much to my boyfriend, Gabriel, who has been my rock and shoulder to lean on. Many thanks to my teachers at the Berkana Institute of Massage Therapy, especially Dominique Rochart who has been my mentor from the very beginning. Thank you to the Source Health Center, where I got my solo start. I am most appreciative of my clients that continue to help me grow as a person and help The Strong Touch to thrive. I couldn’t do it without my community!
