Meet Marie Flores | Owner of Girl Talk Makeup LLC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marie, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing that I have done as a parent that has impacted my children is making the decision to pursue the dream of opening my own business. I have always been a strong believer that you should be the biggest example your children see. By starting my own business I became that living example that you should do what makes you happy and pursue your dreams. I have witnessed the impact it has had on them because in their conversation while they are playing they now speaking of “their business” instead of “going to work”. They talk about their dreams of what what they want to create instead of where they want to work. Either is fine with me but I feel their visions of opportunities have expanded.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I first began my business on social media in 2019 and opened a storefront selling quality cosmetics and accessories in our store in 2022. I first began my business when our youngest daughter began to show signs of anxiety, extreme separation anxiety, delayed speech and sensory issues. I was working as a paralegal but needed so much time off to care for her and take her to doctor appointments I knew I needed to do something to supplement our income.
I began to watch live sales on social media to have some “adult” interaction because taking care of our daughter was so emotionally and physically consuming. I began to do research on how to become a reseller and find something I was passionate about. I have always been drawn to people and loved helping others but didn’t realized then how it was going to become a huge part of my business.
I knew I needed to find something I could do on my own time and with my own availability. My first order was the hardest to make. I had to decide to place the order or pay a utility bill. My husband without hesitation told me to place the order and if it failed it would be ok but at least I tried. He encouraged me and pushed me to believe in myself.
I began going live on social media and selling cosmetics under retail prices and the amount of women that came on my live sale was overwhelming. I sold out of almost all the products I ordered and everyone was asking when the next sale would be so they could shop again. When I ended the live sale I was in shock and broke down into tears I then realized it wasn’t the income I needed, it was the interaction with these beautiful humans that I needed more than anything.
At that moment I knew this was what I wanted to do. As the live sales continued the sales increased but the best part were the friendships that developed. Anyone who knows me, knows I wear my heart on my sleeve and I was transparent about my daughters struggles and the encouragement and love just flooded in from those who were shopping with me. For the first time I didn’t feel alone in my struggles. Bonds between complete strangers from all over the US began to develop.
When I was struggling the most with finding answers and help for our daughter the more I knew I needed to go live. I needed the interaction from other women. I needed my friends. When I look back I realize what kept me going wasn’t the income I was trying to supplement but it was the help I was receiving from each of my customers.
I then knew in my heart I wanted to offer my products at affordable prices but with quality products. As much as I needed to feel like a woman of confidence and purpose I wanted those who shopped with me to feel the same. I wanted each women who came to shop with me to know that they were important and loved and very much needed. I wanted to show the women who came to my live show to feel special and noticed. I wanted them to feel that they were all beautiful and I was ok to say yes to yourself.
As women we tend to be care takers and often say no to ourselves before we will to our family and friends. I wanted to bring items that you couldn’t find in retail stores but at affordable prices. I wanted women to be able to say yes to their family and to themselves as well. I wanted women to find themselves like I did.
As the relationships grew so did my business, soon women where telling others about my products and they began to join our amazing community. I soon had customers all over the US as well as locally shopping with me. The messages and orders were growing. I soon began to host open house sales and the response was amazing. I knew then I was ready to open a storefront.
I look at my beautiful children and they remind me why! Since I have started my business I now have the time freedom I need to be the mother they need.
I now have the ability to be present with them and be there when they need me the most without feeling guilty for calling in to work. I encourage each of my children to do what truly makes them happy and pursue their passions. I teach them that your talents and gifts no one can take from you and the world needs them! I teach them that they are a vital part of this world and the community around us. I hope that by my example they will realize that they can truly do anything that desire.
My desire is that anyone who comes in to our store or joins our live sale (we still do live sales) will feel how truly important they are and how loved and needed they are. I want them to walk away feeling beautiful and confident and Girl Talk is place they are always welcomed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to take time to thank my amazing children and my loving and most supportive husband for their love, support, encouragement and push to begin my business. They believed in me on those days I didn’t believe in myself. They are the reason I keep going.
