We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Sipos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Originally, my parents immigrated to the US from Slovakia about 30 years ago, moved down to the Florida Keys and opened up their own restaurant. I’m so lucky to have been able to watch my parents chase their dreams as immigrants while raising 3 kids, they’ve inspired me to start my own business and chase my own dreams. I was born and raised in Key West, Florida, It’s a really really small island where everyone knows about everyone, so my entire life I dreamt to explore the world for new adventures and opportunities. I met my boyfriend in high school and we decided to move to his hometown in Nashville, TN. That’s where I found my passion for one-of-a-kind vintage clothes and eventually where Dandy Babes was born.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m always so proud and excited to talk about my shop. Dandy Babes is unique place that sells new + vintage apparel, home goods, gifts, accessories and more! I feel like the shop is a pretty accurate representation of myself. My own personal style varies, but I love playing dress up! Some days I might feel more colorful + feminine so I’ll throw on a BRIGHT purple bell-sleeve top and pair it with a classic pair of vintage Lee jeans. Other days, I might want to feel cozy so I’ll throw on a soft fuzzy shacket with flowy pants. The store definitely has a diverse mix of styles for everyone. One thing that makes Dandy Babes special is that we support small business! We carry all kinds of fun items like handmade earrings, candles, prints, and SO much more from over 30+ small businesses and independent artists. I love seeking out new talent and showcasing them right here in my very own shop.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Welcome to NASHVILLE! The first place I’m taking my bestie is HOME to show them our “farmhouse” where we own 2 dogs, 3 cats and 6 chickens. We’ll relax in our completely DIY’ed backyard where we’ve installed a galvanized stock tank pool (a stock tank is something you use to feed farm animals with but hey, it’s cheaper than a real pool and it does the trick). Then we’ll be picking some fresh veggies from the raised garden beds we built ourselves surrounding our “pool”. And it’s not a day in the country without an outdoor BBQ. We can skip the crazy bar hoping scene downtown but we’re certainly not skipping out on happy hour and good food at our favorite local spot “Hunter’s Station”. Then it’s all flea markets, coffee shops and thrift shopping from there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business started out as a side hustle from instagram. I never had many friends growing up because there’s only so many people in a small town but I’ve met so many wonderful and supportive people through social media. Suddenly I was emerged in a community of woman who were on a similar journey and we would share all of our tips and tricks to hustling from home. It was a game changer, and I truly blossomed because of the support of these badass woman. If we don’t support each other, we wouldn’t be able to grow and become a better version of ourselves.
